Suprise!!!
Well, I just got done reading the (semi-finished) script to Jurassic Park IV, and I have to say it has a shit load of plot twist's and suprises in it. This got me thinking: what is the best suprise/plot twist in a movie or videogame?
Here are my top favorites for both: Movies: 1. Finding out Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father in The Empire Strikes Back, 2. Seeing Gandalf return from the dead in The Two Towers, and 3. Watching the White House blow up in Independence day. (How original...) Games: 1. Finding out about the Flood in Halo, 2. Screaming when Samus takes of her helmat in Metroid, only to find out that he is actually a she 3. Playing as Adult Link in Zelda: OoT. Any others?

Do the twist
The twist in "Matchstick Men" wasn't bad. At least it was original.
The Sixth Sense plot twist is my favorite by far though... As for games... ...without a doubt, the twist from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is the best twist ever in a video game. I sat there speechless for an hour... In a distant, distant second, the part (I think stage 6) in Sonic and Knuckles when Knuckles saves Sonic from death, and you actually believe that Knuckles was dead. What has happened to quality Sonic games like that?

I can't think of any best at the moment, but I'll name my worst for the time being.
"Identity". In the end of the movie when we finally see who the actual "killer" was. Pissed me the right off... no way that kid could have done any of that shit. Good movie, until the ending. That's weird, I was expecting to name more...

Nothing beats The Crying Game. Nothing.
Diabolique (the original) and The Wicker Man had great plot twists, too.

Dear god, I HATED that twist. MGS2 was SOOOOO good until they screwed with the plot, as well as having the player control Raiden instead of Snake. Pissed me off.

Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear...
I can't really think of movies right now.

Movies:
- The Usual Suspects, of course. - Resident Evil had a great ending too. Games: - Xenogears had a crazy plot, one of the best in any game, book, or movie. - Metal Gear Solid had some nice twists in it, MGS2's were a bit over-the-top. - Final Fantasy VI had one of the best mid-game twists ever. Kefka is so evil... - Chrono Cross had some interesting twists as well.

Speaking of Metal Gear, I completly forgot about Psycho Mantis in the Playstation version. I almost died when he read my mind, saying, "you like Castlevania, don't you?"
That, and the part when the licker jumped through the two-way mirror in Resident Evil 2. I almost crapped my pants out of fright. To this day, I've lured 3 of my friends into that same situation, only to see them wet themselves.

Seriously, though, that's where I got the idea from, and I HAVE scared 3 of my friends in that same spot, so I'm not lying.

Speaking of 3 year old mags...
I've got a 3 year old Gamepro lying around that says: "Metal Gear Solid 2 has a very central twist that will make you remember why you first started playing games in the first place."
Talk about digging up facts...

And Dyce, Halo's plot your averge sci-fi fare, nothing special. The Flood entrance was wholly unoriginal, and rather anti-climactic.

The Usual Suspects and The Sixth Sense would be my all time movie twists. However, I've not seen The Crying Game, but I know what happens.
Video game twists would have to be Pac-Man...when he eats the blinking dot and can eat the ghosts. It scares them so much...they turn blue!

Star Wars Knights of the Old republic, when u find out ure the bad guy.. i meen, i caught on pretty early, but that game is fucking awesome. 2nd best RPG ever. Also in Fallout 2, when you find out all about the enclave, and the fact that most of the vaults were 'fake' 'placebo's'. and for movies, Fight club, and sixth sense.

The Usual Suspects probably had the greatest plot twist of any movie in recent memory.
As for video games, I'd probably rate Aeris Gainsborough's death in Final Fantasy VII to be tops. Another one was Fei Fong Wong's true identity in Xenogears.
