Kinda funny the first person to mention the 'quake on here is American.
But it's cool, Mandy. And yeah, I hope you all are alright!

I felt it, was playing on Guild Wars when my monitor started shaking, talking to some guys from London on ventrilo and it hit them a few seconds later, was kinda funny as we don't have earthquakes over here.
hi btw

Oh I felt it alright, was dozing off when suddenly everything started shaking and moving around, my bed and me included. I've felt a few before, but nothing like this. Not surprising, as it turns out the epicentre was about 45 miles from here, which is closer than I've ever been. Still, nothing actually broke or smashed, it just shook rather enthusiastically.
I'm really happy to wake up and find there's an earthquake on the news though. Part of my sleepy brain thought, fucksocks, I have some serious Poltergeist issues. PS. Link for today's earthquake here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7266136.stm Last edited by Leonie; 27-02-2008 at 08:30 AM. |

Picture gallery, bet you Americans think us Brits are pussies for making a big deal of this. You guys have 'proper, manly' weather.

Personally I would have crapped myself. Eathquakes, tornado's, Valcano's, all not for me.

Looks like chimney repair is the business to be in for the next few months in the U.K., huh?
That's one thing I've never encountered. Been through hurricanes and tornadoes, but I've never been anywhere near an earthquake. Hope all is well.

Wow, that's pretty amazing. I've been through blizzards, tornadoes, and hurricanes, but never an earthquake. I'd probably yell "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELLS YOU" to try to stop it, but that wouldn't do shit.

Welcome to the club. We get them over here every day, though rarely are we able to feel them.

It wasn't 4.6, it was 5.2/3 depending on which news source you trust. The article Mandy linked to is from an earthquake last year.
It's still no California, but it's kind of unusual here cause Europe's nicely placed upon a tectonic plate, not on the edge of one. Apparently earthquakes like this one only happen once every 10 or 20 years out here. There's supposed to be about 100 in the UK in total every year, but most of them are impossible to feel. Mind you - I wouldn't like to swap with San Francisco. |
