Help Me Name My Horse!
![]() ![]() ![]() This is kind of a silly thread, but I'm horrible at these things and could use some other opinions. It turns out my horse (this is the one I got stuck with, for those of you who know that story) is pretty damn awesome and my goal is to take him to his first show at the end of September (waaaay ahead of schedule). Which brings me to: Amigo needs a show name, and I can't decide. Since I'm not formally training under any trainer or barn right now, I am riding under my own barn name: Wanderlust Equestrian. Ideally, I would like all my horses to have the name of a city as their show names. So, please vote for your favorite: Marbella Cape Town There's already an Amsterdam who is pretty prominant on my circuit, but if any one has an idea to turn Delft into a catchy show name, please share. Otherwise, just vote. This post has become muuch longer than necessary. Last edited by Kelsey; 30-07-2007 at 01:41 AM. Reason: added pics |

Detroit.
But pronounce it Dey-twah...just to make it fancy. Seriously though, I think I like Marbella better than Cape Town. This is the horse that had the hoof issues, right?

Marbella is a much better sounding name for a horse.
That second picture is awesome, I love it! |

Just a note on the town name Delft, cause I remember something about you learning Dutch or something.
In Dutch, "delft" is also the third person singular conjugation fo the verb "delven." A well-known phrase is "het onderspit delven," or he "delft het onderspit," which means that... he loses. So that might not be a great name for such a talented horse |

I say again Meathead, imagine this He wins the Kentucy Derby, The word gets out that he is named after a KKW member. This member is Iranian. This brings tears to the Iranian's President's eyes. He makes peace with the U.S.A. and Isreal. He joins our side in the war. The war in Iraq is over. And there is Peace on earth, Thanks to a horse named meathead.

So, about Delft. I was thinking about Delfts Blue, which is a pottery style that Delft is famous for. Of course, that sounds kind of strange since your horse isn't blue but a gorgeous shade of brown, but then Wikipedia told me that British Airways had a tail design called Delftblue Daybreak some years ago (just look for "delftware" on Wikipedia). I thought Delftblue (with or without Daybreak) could be kind of cool. And it would solve your Dutch verb issues too. The blue part could have a bit of a royal connotation too (blue blood etc), since the House of Orange, which the Dutch royal family descend from, has had ties with the city of Delft since William of Orange, who was our first king of sorts.
I don't know, maybe you'll dismiss the whole idea on the grounds that naming your horse after pottery may be a bit odd, but I just thought I'd chuck in my two cents. It would be nice if you could use Delft, after all Between Cape Town and Marbella, I'd go for Cape Town cause Marbella strikes me as more of a mare's name, whereas Cape Town sounds masculine and daring. |

Cape Town makes me think of P.W. Botha and apartheid.
Just my (old) $0.02.

I would love to include something with Delft in it only because it's one of my favorite places ever. But the same goes for Cape Town and Marbella...
I understand what you mean about Marbella sounding like a mare...it's true I think. Hmm...so hard. |
