Schools drop Holocaust lessons fearing offence

My Dad just sent this to me. I can understand what the teachers mean, most of my teachers felt (and still feel) uncomfortable discussing the Holocaust and Auschwitz with me in the class.

But that's precisely it, children should learn about these horrors, know what happened. Knowledge is power, ignorance equals stupidity; for God's sakes, Socrates said it!

We don't hush about the Spanish Conquistadors and their Mayan and Aztech genocide. We don't skip the Vietnam Wars or the Russian Revolution. This. is. History.
And people should learn it.

As someone who utterly values and loves history, this makes me want to throw up. Thank God my daughter will be like most of you, and learn history for herself.

My friend was telling me something that happened a couple years back when she worked at Target. She was in the break room and this very uneducated man (who had a crush on her) was talking with some other guy there and someone brought up the Holocaust and the uneducated person didn't really get the reference. Someone asked him if he knew what it was and he stumbled for a second but then said "Wait, it's when Hitler killed like a thousand Jews, right?"

Ouch.

Cool stuff... The Holocaust as such is indispensable to understand not only the Third Reich but also today´s geopolitical issues in the Middle East, politics and media in the U.S. and in most countries of Western Europe. Just dropping it is disgusting... as it is, as Ranman said, denied by those same people who believe Jesus was an Aryan and Adolf a kind man playing around with his dog Blondie after hours of hysterical but inoffensive speeches.
