The Future....

How long do you think Keira will be around?
I think it all depends on how well she does in her next couple of films -- not in terms of box office, necessarily, but in terms of her performances. If she can build on what she did with Pride and Prejudice, and prove herself to be a good actress, then I think she could have a very successful career in the long-term. Cuz, you know, Oscar nom or not, the jury is still out on her in some circles, but in others, hopes are high for her. Of course, many still insist (especially in the UK) that she's lousy. So I hope she's good in Silk and Atonement, and whatever else she does in 2007. In particular, another Oscar nomination (or even a win), and she could be good to go for quite a while. That would be neato.

It all depends on how serious and thoughtful she is about her job. What say YOU? Where do you think she'll be in five years?

I think the Oscar nomination and performance in Pride was enough to get rid of the doubts. I see her being around for a fair few years.

However I do think she's become a lot less marketable. Period pieces don't tend to appeal to the same audiences. I think POTC2 should see her gain back popularity with the teen crowd (I feel she's lost a LITTLE of that) and if she continues doing good roles along with popular ones, she could go on for years.

Interestingly she did win FHM's sexiest woman poll this year. Scarlett Johansson won it in the US, I believe, so I think that says it all. Those two are still the future of Hollywood when it comes to leading ladies.

Hopefully....
Of course, Keira has some major handicaps to overcome in the UK. It seems that the standard process for becoming a successful actor in that country is different from here in the US. If you have not spent years and years studying at drama schools and acting in small theater productions, then you are looked down on by the London acting community.

Some actors seem to be rather pompous and childish.

Perhaps I'm looking at the wrong things; focusing too much on one group of opinions.

No, you're not, it's just typically British. We love to build someone up and then knock them down. I bet if you'd looked a few years ago she was being lauded as the next big thing. Now she is, they want to tear her down. Sad but that's just how we are.

I guess I just don't understand your country....
Here in America, when we decide that someone is to be the next big thing, goddamnit, we stick with them! Come Hell or high water, we are NOT wrong.

Tell your fellow Brits to quit being such a bunch of confusing bastards. Support Keira Knightley. She's the only young actress around who I find to be even remotely interesting (besides Natalie Portman).

By the way, it should also be noted that here in the US, Keira is generally regarded as a GOOD actress.

Luckily, the capacity to "be around" depends largely on Hollywood.
I don't see her career tailing off at all. PoTC-DMC and the subsequent third film should be enormous blockbusters. That, coupled with the Oscar nom she has already received (and the one I wouldn't be surprised to see her get for one of the films on her slate) will push her career upward and onward.

I think she'll certainly be around for a while, but then it all comes down to that whole period piece thing. If she gets out there and does more types of characters I think people will start giving her more respect, and realizing she could probably perform well as a character that maybe isn't the first thing that comes to mind regarding Keira.

I think PotC is perfect, but we've seen it before so it's nothing fantastically new, if she does more interesting things like that, comedies. I think she isn't a dispensable Hollywood actress, and she has a lot of staying power, so we'll continue to see her face. I'm pretty sure on that. Hopefully she'll keep being casted in good movies as good characters. I think the industry is on her side right now. She's at the age where it's all up in the air, and the only thing I can see ruining her carrer would be bad choices on her part, because she has the talent to be a staple in the business.

She should play Samas Aran in the Metroid movie. That would rock. (Though, that would be a REALLY BAD choice on her part.)

I'm actually with Jake on this one. If she did more comedies that'd be great. Let's not forget Bend It was a large part of getting her across to the mainstream audience.

She needs to diversify and do more variety. Less period, more modern, and if possible, shed some of the tomboy image. Let's face it, from Bend It onwards it's either been period pieces or tomboyish roles.

I'd like to see her play the girl next door. A feminine modern role. I really loved her as Frankie in The Hole (which was the first of her films I saw) and think she should do more roles like that, playing on the fact that she IS a stunning YOUNG woman.

By the way, did you know that Keira Knightley now has the ability to travel through time?
Seriously -- I saw it on ContactMusic.com. The magic of Kabbalah has enabled her to visit various periods through history. Just how do you think she is preparing for all of these new period films?

Anne Boleyn? Keira met her.

She's gonna be a Bond girl then take Jane Seymour's place making movies for Lifetime and Hallmark and late-night BBC.
