I think that Atonement will be one of the best Keira's movies. I'm glad that the director is Joe Wright, he worked in P&P. So it should be impressive.

[spoiler] "Atonement"'s ending.
just in case, I'm marking this reply with "spoilers", for those who don't really want the ending of the book....well, spoilt; don't scroll down.
* * * * * * * * * * Didn't anybody feel kind of cheated at the end of the book? like robbed of the "happily ever after"? I was so happy he'd made it back to her...and then it turns out it was a happily ever after made by her? *heart-broken* But I also loved how Ian McEwan gives you such contradictory feelings, especially towards Briony. You start off practically hating her, and during her training as Nurse you kind of "warm up", and just end up loving her. It was so sad, the way she was supposed to die. Ironic, too.

Thanks PD, I have a reason now not to read the book, I know the ending.
Could you do this for a few other books for me?

From what I understand, a false accusation by Birony (younger sister...played by several women throughout her life) ruins Celia (Keira) and Robbie's (James McAvoy) romance. He goes off to war and Celia is left behind. Over the course of the film (novel), Birony is forced to come to terms with the heartbreak she mistakenly caused.
Oh yeah...and Keira is clad in wet undergarments for a few moments. Worth the price of admission alone.

it sounds like one of those movies that you would need to be in the right mood to watch, i could find it an extremely heart string pulling tale or i could find it incredibly boring by the sound of it.

Either I'm very slow and didn't notice the joke, or Brad accidentally misspelled the character's names....anyway, I'll risk being slow and correct it. The younger sister is called Briony, Keira's character is called Cecilia, and the fountain scene is key. It's the definite catalyst that leads to Robbie's letter, hence the beggining of the end.
It's more than just Keira in soaken undergarments while clutching broken porcelain. If your only aim is to see her semi-naked, check out (once again) the Hole or Domino or whatever.

I think, knowing Brad, he was being facetious, as was I. Brad's never been much of a "Keira-perv".
