I finally saw Blade Runner and it was pretty wicked awesome. I'm sort of bummed i read the book it was based on first, because i couldn't stop comparing the two. Like most books to movies, Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep is better than this movie, but it was still ballz rad. Seeming how it was from 1982, the special effects were amazing. I'd say....even better than Tron! I suggest this for anyone into 25-year-old sci-fi movies.

Flags of our Fathers
Not as good as I expected. It was alright, but I found that it slipped in many of the tired old cliche's. Ira Hayes was an Indian who had a drinking problem. Yes, I know. The character was just flat. Really, all of the characters were kind of flat and the audience gets to know them more from what others are saying than by their own actions. It can't touch Saving Private Ryan in that regard. I also wasn't a big fan of the cinematography. A lot of the color seemed washed out, and I can only assume they thought it brought something to the tone of the film. It didn't. Liam should enjoy it, if only for the F4U Corsairs that buzz the convoy of ships on its way to Iwo Jima. There's also a few POV strafing runs of Mt. Surabachi that seem to come out of nowhere. Nobody in the film is a pilot, so the shift is a bit jarring. One minute, you're ducking for cover in volcanic sand, and the next, you're firing wildly at gun implacements in a Corsair. Then, you're back on the ground.

I've actually just returned from a weekend trip where I managed to get myself into a detailed conversation with an F/A-18 pilot from the US, extracting everything he knew on formation flying and close combat from him, so I'm in a big flying mood.
I'll check it out. I dont really care about the cinematography. I'm just in it for the aero-porn.

You chose Flags of our Fathers over The Prestige?! Tsk. Tsk.
The Prestige was awesome, though. Some minor confusion in the story telling, but it's a total mind-fuck. Which is nice.

I just now got around to watcing Pride and Prejudice. I've come to the conclusion that I now actually like Keira, Rupert Friend is sickening, and Matthew Macfadyen is not a good actor.
I can see why Keira was nominated for Best Actress now, she really did very well. I remember the days when we all insisted the woman couldn't act for shit. She's come a long way. |

Started just like any other adam sandler movie... and progressed in the same fashion. Got quite good in the middle, but then had the standard tacked on hollywood happy ending where he wakes up and it was all a dream, but oh what a life changing dream it was. opinion: meh, its an ok film. If your going the the movies, see it. But don't go out of your way for it.

So, i saw Fearless, The Prestige, and The Departed recently. All top fucking notch. Fearless was so totally mountain dew, with the greatest fucking fight scene i've ever seen. At first i sort of didn't like how it was ending, then it ended up being all about teamwork, and i fucking love teamwork, therefore i loved this film. The Prestige was some trippy ass shit. Then you think about it for a few minutes and realize it's one of the hottest things you've ever seen. Like....for real, i can't even describe how good it was. If you know Christopher Nolan, than you just know it was good. The Departed easly became my favorite movie of the year when i walked out of the theatre. Not only was it awesome violence all the way through, but it had an amazing fucking story. Now this time, i'm not just gonna say "i can't even describe it" because i suck at describing things, but for real, if i say anything it gives some crazy shit away. Goddamn quality.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
Holy shit this was funny. Airplane! funny. Skinny, hairy naked man chasing a fat, hairier naked man through a hotel with a rubber fist, funny. It's just so fucking absurd, that you can't stop laughing. I can't wait for the DVD simply for the extra features and deleted scenes because I am sure there is stuff that they simply couldn't use and still get an R rating. Low-brow, scatalogical humor at its zenith.

I've seen some of it on Da Ali G show, and to be honest, I like the Borat character the best. Sasha Baron Cohen is a genius.

Borat is pure genius (right Pete ?
Also, I am currently into the Rome series by HBO, and I feel an addiction developping fast. For all those who are fond of almost perfect historical accuracy combined with thrilling drama, I would recommend the first series very warmly (second series is to be released in January).

Ooh, Oh, man did i ever see Babel. That movie was so depressing and good. It was depressing in the way Requiem For A Dream was depressing. I walked into this movie not knowing much about it except for the Brad Pitt story which was shown in the trailer. It's 4 stories, i never bothered to even look at the poster. They're all extremely depressing and they all seem extremely real. Especially the story about the def/mute japanese girl. I mean you could really see everything just in her eyes. It was fantastic. On a lighter note, Borat is still hilarious

Saw The Fountain last night. Pretty incredible. Brought up a really cool discussion between my friends and I afterward. It was a really interesting movie, but it was a lot different than what I expected.
