To my knowledge it doesnt state any clues in the film, so how are we to know by any other means than conjecture?

I'm gonna go with her actual age(17) when she did the flick. I believe it wasn't uncommon back in time for women to marry younger than today, so it fits.

and extensive research (ok, google) places will at 17 (although one website did say 21)

hmmm... how old do the young versions look? if they look about 9 then 17 would be about right!

Actually, Elizabeth Swann is supposed to be 20. It says on the DVD, where it has the film script.

In the original script, she is 12 in the beginning and later (Keira's character) she is 20. So it's 8 years between them...
