I'm going to invest in a digital SLR soon, but just a plain old Sony cybershot p73. For most of the photos it decided to use the flash :/ 4mpixel, optical quality isn't that great, no filters allowed.
The extra resolution power would be nice, currently everything is on natural light with the program mode of my camera's slightly orange cast. You wouldn't expect 6:30 am light to give a sunset effect. I had an film SLR with me also, which should have taken gorgeous pictures, but I won't know till I develop it. What bothers me is that the camera was put through an xray machine at the entrance of the tower I am working :/ Pwned film. Theres more photos at Cliff's london Photos

Only high speed films are affected by X-Rays (800 a little, 1600 & 3200 you're fucked). If it was 100-400 it shouldn't be affected, unless they have the machines jacked up all crazy. Then, you might want to have yourself checked out.
What digital SLR? When I was selling cameras in a previous life, the Nikon D1 was the shit. 6 MegaPixels cost you $5000. Shit, the digital media back then cost more than most digital cameras now.

I was quite tempted by the Pentax *ist DS, as I have old pentax manual lenses, and the tiny SLR size appealed to me. I was actually going to buy it fairly recently but I had to use the money for other things.
I'm probably going to wait for the next generation now, lets say a pentax with a higher mpixel CCD and CCD antishake. And retaining a huge viewfinder size (a pentax and super expensive digital slr exclusive)

I had Pentax MEs growing up. Aperture priority sucked ass, but it got the job done. Pentax has good glass. What models?
I'd like a digital SLR, but child support payments take priority. When I do take the plunge, it'll be Nikon. I've got a 28mm f/2.8, 35-70mm f/2.8 and an 80-200mm f/2.8 for my N90s (all picked up dirt cheap thanks to Photo Barn) that will work splendidly.

80-200mm f2.8? You lucky bastard. A very useful set of lenses that you have there, quite similar to what I'm looking for sometime in the future.
I have a first gen. Pentax MX, an oh so lovely machine. Been all over the world with my father, survived 2 years of libyan desert etc. After a recent maintenance job (to replace degraded foam light blocks/seals and to get a new focussing screen where I had, like a fucktard tried to clean it with acetate 'doh!) Got a pentax P30n also, like the automatic mode, but its way too plasticy for my liking. The viewfinder isn't as indulgent as the MX however. (it would be the same as your ME i'd say) I've got pentax SMC 50mm 1.4, 2.0, SMC 28mm 2.8, 135mm 2.8. I like primes. However when I get a new DSLR, I'll be hoping to get 70/80 -200mm 2.8, an 18-70mm 2.8, and a selection of manual primes. It would be nice to retain the use of my pentax 28mm and my 50mm because the build quality and image quality is totally sweet. Oh, and the manual focusing action on the pentax manual lenses is totally sexual. <exit photo gadget geek> EDIT: OK, photo equipment discussion over to the photo equipment geekout thread I think. I don't deal in off topic hypocrisy. Well, unless it leads to better things.

London this morning is completely fogged + smogged out. To the point where from my vantage point I can barely see the river/st pauls cathedral. Which is some serious smog. Unfortunately my camera batteries ran out last night, and I couldn't find a battery charger, so shitty luck

some pics from my trip to London, sadly I pushed what I shouldn't have pushed and most of my photos are ruined.
the view from our Hotel Room on the 7th Floor (we were in the same hotel than last year, near Piccadilly) a Pic from the Brittish Museum, we went again but we just saw the parts about Rome, Greece and Egypt. I had hoped we could have seen the part about Britain but we were too hungry for that. and the London Eye, my friend had to talk me into it, I'm scared of Height and that thing goes at 190 meters. But in the end it wasn't that bad. We decided to go in a bus then once in Adlwych we decided to walk, directing ourselves from what we could see of the wheel (meaning we couldn't find where to take the second bus which was supposed to take us there). ![]() |

That picture alone makes the thread worthy of being a sticky.

... I'm not entirely sure what that picture is supposed to show...
I can make out a bike on the ground, and a bike rack.

We came across that little gem on a random nighttime stroll about 2 months back. Basically, some wag had reversed into a sign, which had then fallen on (and totally crushed) someones bike.

It's also interesting to note that as this stage, the bike is actually wrapped around the sign. Whoever was planning on cycling home that night was in for a little surprise. Her bike turned into a paperclip.
