I think a lot of it has to do with the introduction of the PG-13/NC-17 rating by the MPAA. Studios don't want a film to get an NC-17 tag, so a lot of eroticism gets left out in order to keep things at an R. Likewise, studios that have a film that might have otherwise been rated R will pare things down a bit to slip it in (pun intended) as a PG-13 so that it will appeal to the broadest audience possible. Given the choice of keeping naughty bits covered to get a PG-13 versus flashes of tits and ass that garners an R, the studio execs will, almost without hesitation, demand the film be cut so that they can market it to the Hannah Montana set.

Oh, and by the way, feel free to melt down Devil Cody's Oscar. Least deserving Oscar last year. It winning made Tilda Swinton's win seem as justifiable as Daniel Day-Lewis' or Marion Cotillard's.
