the movie was made when she was like 15, but they deferred release another year, with the consent and approval of her parents. had they not agreed, it would not have been released.

It goes back to the puritanical and fundamentalist beliefs regarding sex and purity. Nudity, as part of sexuality, has been viewed as simply for procreation, and it also goes to the fear that arousal will cause sex and children whose paternity is questionable.

The Age of consent in Canada is 16, 14 in Germany, Hungary, Madagascar, 13 in spain, various ages in the US, 12 in Mexico city. They vary, although a handful of nations have the age of consent at 14.

In Canada the age is 14, but there has been protest about it so the government may rase it back to 16.

I finally saw this movie. Kinda reminded me of Saw, except less complicated and much creepier. Thora Birch was good, but you would've thought her character would've done "the right thing" after what happened to Keira's character. But I guess that was just her being too hung up on that dude.
