Good. I hope the whore that brought the charges is named in the suit as well. Women who pull this sort of shit are one of the biggest reasons women who actually are raped don't come forward. This woman should be in jail, as should that idiot Nifong.
As for the discussion, what do you think sould happen to those who make false rape allegations?

Jail em. Like you said, they hamper genuine victims and also the accusations, even when they "go away" always leave a taint on the accused. They'll always be known as the guys who were accused of rape, even if the words "but didn't do it" follow, it's not exactly something you want to be associated with. The fact that women like that lie is what causes people not to believe women who genuinely were raped, and that presumption that they're lying tends to affect juries.

If its PROVEN that the accusation is false as in an attempt to later
bring a big civil suit or extort money then yeah I'm all for jail time.
What is the penalty for perjury? slap on the wrist?
The one thing to keep in mind is you don't want to put additional
fear into the minds of real victims that if the accused has a great
lawyer they might do jail time too. It would be awfull for someone
who really was raped to also get sent to jail.

Naturally it would require DNA evidence to back up the claim that she lied (as was the situation in this case) and in the absence of that then I don't think jail time should be on the table. Like you said, that would only add to the fear felt by real rape victims.

Perjury/obstruction of justice can lead to jail time, but aren't the easiest to prove.
