Can you help me? Last time I'm interested in old American and British films. Can you advise me some?

Gone With the Wind - A bit hokey by today's standards, but still a wonderful film. Based on the novel by Margaret Mitchell.
Citizen Kane - Utterly changed the art of film. Part of the reason Gone With the Wind seems so hokey. The Godfather - Newer than the first two, but an absolute classic. Dr. Zhivago - Brilliant.

You might also want to try, basically cause hasselbrad took almost all the classics.
Anything by Laurel and Hardy - One of the best comedy duos of all time. Casablanca Wizard of Oz Some Like it Hot The Graduate To Kill a Mockingbird Dr. Strangelove 12 Angry Men Rebel Without a Cause On the Waterfront Give some of those a try. |

I like Laurel and Hardy, but their last movie together, ATOLL K, was painfully unfunny. THE MUSIC BOX and BLOCK-HEADS was great though.
This should keep you busy for a while. Anything by Alfred Hitchcock, i.e. Strangers on a Train, Rear Window, The Birds, Psycho, Vertigo, Dial M for Murder, Shadow of a Doubt, North by Northwest, and Frenzy. Anything by the Marx Brothers, i.e. Monkey Business, At the Circus, A Night at the Opera, and Duck Soup. All three of James Dean's movies: East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, and Giant. Two words: Tracy and Hepburn. All nine of their movies.

And, now that Richard has weighed in with his selections, this thread may as well be locked.
![]() I bow to your movie knowledge, sir.

Watching Gone With he Wind on Hallmark every Christmas has become a tradition for me. I have to blame mum for getting me to watch it so many times. But I love it.

Stanley Kubrick's films are essential. Any film buff will tell you that. I think 2001 is a film that requires multiple viewings to appreciate. I've still only seen it once because I haven't worked up the courage to see it again.
Surprize, Turner Classic Movies is going to have a small tribute to British films made at the legendary Teddington Studios, or something like that, in the month of September, read about it here: http://www.tcm.com/2007/teddington/index.jsp It's the first of its kind that I've seen. I might watch a few.

Thank you for your replies. They are helpfull for me. I'm not sure that it'll be easy to find them but I'll try - of course, we have special DVD-sections. Finally, the one film, from all your lists, I saw is Some Like It Hot. Thank you.
