Am I the only person that thinks Valentine's Day is bullshit?

I know I can't be the only person. It is a load of dung. It's a holiday hallmark created so they can make millions off those damn cards. Also, if you love someone show them everyday. I get sick and tired of these commericials I see saying "Buy this 2,000 dollar necklace to show you love her." I have always hated this day and I realize it has passed for about four months. But am I a prick or is that really how it is? Or maybe alot of people use it to get laid. Who knows? Discuss

And I should know, not that I'm ugly or anything. *cough* my avatar. Anyways, Valentine's Day does suck if you don't have that "special someone". NOTE: I'm referring to High school students for the moment. But I for one wouldn't want to spend loads of cash for that "special someone" especially since there's a good chance you may never see that person after graduation, and it's a fact. Maybe I just don't want to waste my time? Maybe I haven't had a lot of luck lately? Whatever the case my be, I find the day to be rather pointless, because "Nothing shows more love than a three dollar card". Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people to have a great time with their significant other, but some kids take that day to be the most important rather than their anniversary. In my opinion, that day is what counts. I sound like a lonely chump, there's nothing I can do about that.

To be honest, I would rather watch a horror movie about Valentine's Day than actually celebrate it. On that note, by the words of the late Roy Orbison "Only the lonely, know the why I feel tonight".

I have mixed feelings about it. I think it's just an excuse for people to treat whoever they are with better, but they should do that everyday; or at least more often than once a freakin' year. So I think it's kind of pointless (but I would take that $2,000 diamond necklace someone mentioned) . On the *other* hand, I don't ever want to get married, but if I should ever decide to, I want to be proposed to on Valentine's Day on top of the Eiffel Tower.

What's easy about Valentine's Day is, it's not a legally observed holiday, so if you want, you can simply ignore it. The worst holiday about relationships happens to be Christmas, simply because it's a time of getting together with family, it's close to the New Year (when all acquaintances be forgot), and it's usually a cheerful time, for most people. For those who are alone, or are seeking a relationship, Christmas can be the most difficult time of year.

Valentine's Day is not as commercialized, too, so it receives less observance. If you're in a relationship, then Valentine's is almost a must, but it doesn't affect me much. (Perhaps that's because I have never been in a relationship...)

All Valentines Day could be is a jewelry company to make alot of money off of someone "showing love". Show it everyday and save the money. Thats all I'm saying.

Showing you love someone should have it's own natural "special appeal"...that's the point...love IS special...no matter how often it's shown or how rarely...

Yeah...mixed feelings myself...I've done some pretty stupid things on Valentine's Day before (dozen red roses plus a few other assorted gifts...not cheap...nothing ever happened...seen the girl around recently but things are more than a little frosty there ). On the other hand...I can see it's special appeal. I think it's a nice day to show you love someone, sure...but I also agree with the sentiment of showing it every day.

If I had someone to shower it on...I'd buy her special presents "just because" (I've done this for girls before...yes...soppy romantic...so sue me...they never went out with me so it shows nice guys DO finish last )...but then make Valentines uber special...it's just a little thought...and if you love someone they're in your thoughts all the time anyway. I mean I've surprised a girl I loved once with flowers at her workplace because...I felt like it on a whim...thought it'd brighten up her evening...and I bought the same girl gifts on a similar rationale.

Oh yes buddy...let me speak from experience...Christmas and New Year's...I remember last Christmas/New Years with less than fond memories...those I CAN remember through the drunken haze

i think most holidays are bullshit. valentines, mothers day, fathers day...i mean what about all the people who dont have someone "special" in there lives, oh and of course the card companies want money, and for those who parents are dead or dont have good relationships with them *cough cough* me. or others, me again, who are just plain broke, and i dont want to make a crap card because i dont really care. it all comes down to money for businesses. like christmas too. maybe i'm just extremely cynical and pasamistic but i'll choose not to join the crowd

and holidays also bring family gatherings, which i try to avoid at any cost, even going out to eat with them too, i'd rather just stay home and sleep. i know this view of holidays is really just because of my family issues but if you look at holidays and economy objectively, it's still all about money, which makes it bull. valentines day makes more people feel like shit and lonely then make couples happy.
