That is an excellent post hasselbrad. It is a good idea to lightly define an area/areas of the face with the pencil( or whatever drawing instrument you are using) before fully committing to a darker, more defined detail and/or contrast. Plus, it is easier to erase and correct mistakes that way.

On the subject of Jules' grid...
...you can also use that to enlarge a picture. Make a copy of a pic and use a ruler to draw a grid on it. Then, on a large piece of drawing paper, lightly draw a larger grid. This will allow you to enlarge a picture to virtually any size you want.
