Bend it Like Beckham...
...named as #22 or #23 sports movies of the ESPN era. I didn't see the whole show, but rather cut it on as they were recapping. Did anyone else see this? I sure wish I had enough brain cells left to remember what it beat out. As I recall, I was mildly surprised.

I saw it. Guess what, it's your lucky day. Happy Birthday!

Searching for Bobby Fischer as number 25? lmao. It was a good movie and all, but I dont consider chess a sport... |
Rudy!
That was the movie that really shocked me. I couldn't believe it was so low on the list, and I knew that there was one that BiLB beat out that was a total surprise. Rudy would be top 5 on my list...which is saying a lot because I am an Alabama fan...and hate Notre Dame.
Did they have any clip from BiLB? |
Ok...Searching For Bobby Fischer...not what I'd consider a sports movie...I mean...if we're tossing in Bobby Fischer, then I have a serious problem with Happy Gilmore not being on that list.
also...Finding Forrester? wtf I believe there were maybe two basketball scenes in that movie, and it's really more about this writer everyone thinks doesn't exist. It is not a sports movie. For serious. |
there will be a Tennis-movie with Kirsten Dunst, soon. Named "Wimbledon"... :icon_surp
Nice one, indeed Greetings JayBe |
I'm not too convinced. I don't like Kirsten Dunst, I do like tennis and therefore Wimbledon, so... they'd better not screw up. Off topic, I know. Sorry about that. To get back on topic, it is weird that people use a couple of sports-y scenes as an excuse to put a film they like in a list they think is important. BILB rules anyway :D

Tin Cup... what a movie.
that's the sole reason I got into golf (well, besides my parents, and Tiger Woods) and it's the sole reason I bring out 5 golf balls when I'm 100 yards to the pin:) |
I'm mad that White Men Can't Jump ranked before Bend it Like Beckham. How in the heck?

why is jerry maguire part of the list? :icon_conf
|
Tom Cruise plays a sports agent, and Cuba Gooding Jr.'s character is a football player. It has more reason to be up there than Finding Forrester, that's for damn sure.

And I love White Men Can't Jump... that movie is so funny. |
Eight Men Out definitely needs to be higher. So does Caddyshack.
And where the hell is The Big Lebowski!? |
I just remembered. Best sports movies for kids- 'The Sandlot' and 'D2:The Mighty Ducks'. Instant classics.
|
Who can forget the Sandlot?! That was one of my favorite movies of my childhood, as well as D2. Both great movies.
|
I just saw a guest looking at this and I re-read the list of films.
How is Rocky not on there? Have installments 2 through 6 done that much damage to the franchise? Seriously. Rocky has got to be in the top three and it's not even on the list. |
