If you're at work... or should be working... don't do this.

Hmm this info is taken from this year i think. it shows my neigbhors pool and i dont think theyve had more than 12 or 18 months
Thats the coolest thing ever i just followed my whle commute to school and like i could tell where i was cause the landmarks were there.

Flightfreak 08-04-2005 02:39 PM

Isn’t that hot?
I wonder how long it will stay online because it’s a very helpful tool for terrorists.

It's actually no more than like..two months old. It's got a fountain on my campus that has only been running since around February...and I can actually see the water in the fountain.

That's seriously insane. I've spent at least 20 minutes just looking at stuff now.

Flightfreak 08-04-2005 02:59 PM

Its not like they made that map in one month, you can see differences of seasons on the map.

Digital_Ice 08-04-2005 02:59 PM

well it is satelite imagery, its probably updated every couple of days or so.

*DISCLAIMER*
Dear Mr FBI Dudes...
I am not a terrorist, i am mearly concuring with my good freind FlightFreak, and these images are mearly for illustrational purposes... honestly
so bog off and go bother google......

apoggy 08-04-2005 03:07 PM

out of date satellite maps are hardly going to be useful. If they went in closer and were more up to date then maybe, as it is, terrorists know where these places are, what help would seeing them from a satellites perspective be?

Mags 08-04-2005 03:24 PM

It also greatly helps if you actually look at landmarks. For example, yes, 1600 Penn. Ave is the address of the White House. But that map gave you Lafayette Square across the street.

There's the actual white house, inbetween the Treasury Dept and the OEOB.

Flightfreak 08-04-2005 03:27 PM

aren’t you forgetting something?
we do speak about the USA… *paranoia*
if they even point 5 automatic guns at my mate (15 year old kid) because he could be a terrorists than I would not be surprised if the government would make a fuss about this.
those maps can be handful to check out industry parks (nuclear power plans, petrochemical industry,...)

Digital_Ice 08-04-2005 03:45 PM

mags, if you look, the bubble may be over the park, but the red pointer is directed at the road, so it is infact correct. i know where the white house is :P :P :P and which one it was!

marine 08-04-2005 04:21 PM

crazy, It has my uncle's house.

You fucktard, if they were terrorists capable of getting past security on these places, don't you think they'd have maps already? And more recent ones at that?

bruman 08-04-2005 04:26 PM

and it wouldn't surrise me that they have people working in the fbi, cia, white house....

love you to honey…
read my posts again…

1:I wonder how long it will stay online because it’s a very helpful tool for terrorists.
---> simplified: I am "wondering" how long the site Google maps will stay online...

extra info: bush proposed a new law
basically: "he wants to be able to shutdown every GPS system with one button.(Galileo European version of GPS and GPS it self)"

now to answer your question:
maybe, who knows,...but like I said: USA,...paranoia,...

*some stupid babbling*

Also, check out Michaelmoore.com- on the must read page (I'm pretty sure it's on there)- aparantly nuclear plants in 31 states are vunerable to attack.

acliff 08-04-2005 10:17 PM

Satellite photographs are not GPS, I'm sure even you know that Flightfreak.
If google were able to get satellite photographs of everywhere, I'm sure anyone could get them if they were looking. Having them readily available doesn't change the fact that most terrorists don't go 'hey lets browse google and find a random airport to suicide bomb', they know their target, have probably known their targets for the last 3 years, and know exactly what it looks like and already know the indepth layout of the buildings, regardless of what they are.
You think an well funded terrorist organisation don't already have access to this information?

I find it ridiculous that someone puts up a map, and the first thing that comes to their heads is how terrorists could use it. If I gave you an ordinance survey map, would you be worried that snipers would find out where the church towers were?

And Flightfreak, you mention that the US is paranoid... I'm pretty sure that you were the first one to mention anything about terrorism... and where do you live? One of the most carefree countries in the world besides Jamaica.

Next time you say things in another language, because its obviously something you don't want me to read, i shall delete it.

Keyser, I'm pretty sure on this google map you can't specify 'vunerable nuclear power stations' or 'important buildings that might be a good target for those dabbling in terror mongering'. Besides vunerable in what sense? I'm guessing the powerstations near living people are very well secured, and now they all have nuclear power stations that are impossible to go into meltdown.
