I saw it this afternoon. It has been the funniest movie of 2004 so far. The guys did a really good job. The make fun of Americans really well, but they bash actors the most.

Oh man so many great lines.

Yeah, I'm going to see it tommorow, looks f'ing hilarious. CFC: is it true, in the puppet sex scene, that the guy dosen't have any, excuse me, gonads? If so, that's one of the funniest things I've heard of this year.

Word on the skreet is that they had to dim down the sex scene so that they wouldn't have an NC17 rating.

i just saw it 10 minutes ago! it was so good, finally a movie that i didn't demand my 8 bucks back.

Yeah, the movie had to be cut 9 times to get it's R rating. Quite funny, if you ask me, a NC-17 rated movie involving puppets

Is it as funny as the advertisments made it look? Because if it is that funny...it's not funny at all. Seriously, it looks like the worst movie.

Renegade

I saw a clip on TV (mtv I think) showing one of the puppets vomiting over and over...and over. It wasn't funny at all. I did like the "BakkaLakkaDakka street" line and this clip I saw involving Hans Blix and that Asian emperor dude (Kim Jong?). Meh, the movie looks okay.

I love satire and parodies, so I imagine I'll like it. They clip they played on Conan was pretty funny, assuming you know at least a bit about politics.

Jacoby (aka Trendy McTrenderson) is just mad because Zack Braff isn't in it. Which is a good thing.

Zach Braff has no talent.

Anyway, I've wanted to see this film since I saw the trailer:

Michael Moore
Sean Penn
Tim Robbins
Susan Sarandon
Liv Tyler
George W. Bush
John Kerry
Kim Jong Il
are all going to be really, really mad...

Any trailer with those words makes the film a classic by default.

My my friend and I went to go see Shaun of the Dead, which was actually funny, and they played the preview for TAWP. There was about 30-40 people in the whole theatre and it was completely quiet. When they said the "bakkalakkadakka" thing, one guy was about to laugh, but got embarassed and just pretended to cough. This movie will be nothing special. Believe.

Zach Braff fo' lyfe.

Sean Penn actually wrote a letter saying that it will encourage "irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment, mutilation, exploitation, and death of innocent people."

Parker and Stone said he has no sense of humor. I find the whole letter writing ignorant. If he doesn't like the movie he shouldn't give it free publicity. I haven't seen it but I think it looks hilarious. I heard on the radio the puppet sex scene was cut from something like 2 minutes to 30 seconds, and that the full 2 minutes of good lovin' puppet sex will be on the DVD.

have you seen 'garden state'? i've heard it showcases his talent, but i wouldn't know cos i haven't seen it.

what exactly is the premise of the film? is it trying to make a point about something or is it just making fun of everyone?

That's just not true. Garden State was amazing. Off topic though. I don't know if I want to see TA:WP in the theater or on DVD because. I fear teens are going to sneek in and talk through out the whole thing making dumbass comments and ruin it.

It's a Matt Stone and Trey Parker offering. And considering how South Park started off as REASONABLY funny but then progressively became shitter and shitter and shitter...largely because Stone and Parker aren't quite as funny as they like to think they are, I'm not even putting the effort in to watch the trailer. I KNOW it'll be shit without seeing squat.

Woohoo...shit...squat...that's the kinda crappy unfunny link that Stone and Parker always make...eurgh...infantile moronic crap.

ah sarah michelle, she should really try to get away from that genre. from teen thriller to just... thriller.

i agree with haz, south park started funny and went american pie-ish. gratuitous. and parker and stone really aren't as funny as they (or the 10yr old male population) would like to think.

but with that said, this movie looks funny because of the puppets. such funny puppets with such bad voice-impersonations. comical, really.

Arrr...see I like Bob. She's a savvy customer...has a keen sense of taste and a very clear way of presenting her views. Much impressed I must say.

The Grudge...not seen it yet but since it's written and directed by Takashi Shimizu (I hope I spent that right) the guy who made the Japanese original called Ju-On it shouldn't be too bad. Ju On fucking rocked. However I do have a SLIGHT fear this'll turn out to be like The Ring...which isn't a patch on Ringu.

Back on topic. Still not convinced much. Stone and Parker, whenever they injected overtly political elements into South Park failed miserably...they were much better at social critique than political satire, and again I just have a slight fear they'll fuck it up here again. Meh...may watch it when it comes out on DVD, especially if I can get hold of it for free <coughs nervously>. But I'm not shelling out to see it at the cinema.

Well at the risk of taking this off topic that's largely because unlike Ringu they're using the same director...not crucial but important...I actually REALLY hope The Grudge IS as good as Ju-On...if it is it'll be something fucking special.

to take this completely off topic -
i actually liked the western version of 'the ring'. but it might have to do with the fact that i watched the original without subtitles. and we tried watching ju-on with very bad subtitles (pirate, arrr) and we ended up making jokes about the old woman and the stain on the carpet (ahaha, the maturity of 18yr old school girls)

but i'm sure team america will be a cult hit. it will attract the kevin smith fans who became suicidal after jersey girl. i probably won't be seeing it at the cinema, unless we uhh... get into the show... after watching a different one... ahem.

The American version of The Ring wasn't BAD...it just wasn't as good as the Japanese one. And yeah...it would be a little silly without subtitles. As would Ju-On...hehe.

Probably will be a cult smash...just doesn't strike me as being to my taste <shrugs>. Hmmm...yeah...spose I could do the whole sneaking into another show routine...but nahh...even that strikes me as too much effort :p

American humor must be different from British humor. American humor being Seinfeld and South Park and British humor being the Teletubbies. Just kidding.
But in all honesty, I think the recent (like last season, or the one before) South Parks are hilarious. You're right Haz, they're great with social satire. I dunno, you say they're not funny anymore. But I think just the opposite.

I kinda got tired when they did the whole post 9-11 political shit...and I think the social satire is repetitive now...they need fresh material imho. And err...British humour? Like errr...Monty Python? Nuff said really.

K, I just saw this movie, and while it did have some funny parts, for the most part, it was just gross. I suppose you could call it satire if it weren't all sex jokes and vomit, but really...it was just nasty. I mean, I definitely laughed a few times (The Pearl Harbor and Montage songs were hilarious), but for the most part, I really was just waiting for it to end.

Meh.
