Whiter that Wonder Bread with the crusts cut off.
My father's side is of, from what I can tell, 100% English descent, (Irish further back) even though I'm like the eighth generation in the US. All of my grandmothers' have very English sounding names, so I don't see even a sprinkling of ethnicity.
My mother's side is mostly English, but with a smattering of Swedish and German to whiten me up even more.
My ex-wife was a member of DAR, and pure whitebread as well, so my daughter is translucent.
I have as much rhythm as a dryer full of bowling balls. :)

Haha, Poggs raises quite a good point, actually. People who have been over here for more than a few generations qualify as 100% American. As far as your ethnic heritage (which is how I'm looking at this thread -- and what I think Louis meant to ask about), that's different.

I'm caucasian (obviously) and my family has been here in the States since the late 1700's, so it's proven rather difficult for my dad to trace all of our lineage (he's a genealogy freak, by the way) back to Europe. I have a very rare, Scottish last name -- basically, the only people with my last name are over here (in the States) and they are either close or distant family. So, yeah, I'm a good bit of Scotch/Irish (anyone who's Scottish is most likely Irish as well) and German, on my father's side and English on my mother's. So, yeah. I'm quite Anglo-Saxon, myself. I don't know how I ended up with such olive skin. :p

I'm mostly Irish on my dads side which would explain why we like to argue and fight so much. And I'm German on my mothers side. So basically we come from the two countries that are best known for their alcoholic beverages which would explain my obsession with whiskey and guinness beer.

Maybe there's a bit of Welshman in there? I don't know, it's got to do with conquerers from the far east a long long time ago, which is why some people on the British islands have dark hair & eyes, olive skin, that kinda thing. It's a shame I don't remember exactly - I'll look it up sometime when I don't feel like crap.

[IMG]Why claim to be 50% English when the last 5 generations of your family have never even visited?

I take exception to that. I visited England in the Spring of 1980, as a 15 year old boy. I found where my ancestors lived near Bridgwatter, Hutton & Uphill, Weston Super Mare. Sorry if misspelled. I visited a church that had a pew with my family name on it, though none of my family had sat there for generations. Two of my older brothers have the family coat of arms tatooed on their flesh. Our pride in family heritage runs deep. I would post a copy of image of family coat here, but file is too large.

We have a saying here in Texas, "Never ask a man where he is from, because if he is from Texas, he will tell you soon enough, and if he isn't, you wouldn't want to embarrass him." All due respect for my friends...I didn't write that old adage, I just repeat it with the pride of a 100% Texan.

Peace,

I wholeheartedly disagree.
Having done a bit of research and participating in National Geographic genetic survey, I found out that I was partially wrong. The whiteness cannot be denied. According to the genetic data, my pre-historic ancestors were among the second group to migrate out of Africa into the central Asian steppes (the first being those whose genetic markers are found in coastal India and among the Aborigines in Australia) and then headed for Europe.
On the other hand, my last name supposedly comes from d'Oilli (and the various spellings) which would mean I descend from Norman blood.
That may explain why I'm such a bastard! :p

It doesn't really matter I was born in S.A, since we're a country of immigrants..besides, people don't buy I was born here. I get asked all the time where I'm from :/ According to my mother it's the fact that we lived in the States when I was so tiny...my accent is weird. (in every language :P)

No, I am so white I am blinding. Of my four lines, two came to the "new world" when they were given land by the King. So I think of myself as about American as it gets.

Before that, all four of my lines came from Yorkshire in England (Beverley and Hull with a few other little towns thrown in there). I have my family traced back to that area as far back as the 700s.

I'm pretty white aswell. I'm English, Welsh and Irish. My mum's entire side is English and Welsh and came over to Canada in the 1890's I think, and settled in the Toronto area. My dad's dad side came from Ireland in the 1830's during the potato famine and settled in quebec, and my dad's mum's side came from Ireland in the 30's and also settled in the Toronto area. I'm very pale, with reddish-blonde hair and blue eyes.
