so, what are you running?

i'm currently on a pentium 4 2.4c running at 3.36GHz
geforce 6800GT running at 420/1130
abit IC7
1GB OCZ gold edition pc4000 @ 2.5-3-3-7
SB live! 5.1
160gb western digital hd

screenshot of my cpu description (and 3d mark 03 benchmark since i dont feel like cropping it out) is below.

ryan's computer (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/rtierney/3dm03.jpg)

in the not too distant future, i'll finally be purchasing my swiftech and danger den watercooling setup and will definitely be able to get another 100mhz out of my 2.4c and probably a good 20-25mhz out of my gpu. all that, and much much cooler ambient/load temps. im stoked.

yes, this'll only interest all of the nerds out there. if you dont like it, fuck off. :p

Just wondering how much did that vid card cost? I am looking for a 6800 but I can't find a cheap one.

I am running

1GB RAM DDR 333
MSI NeoPlatinum mono
Nvidia Geforce 4400 Ti 128mb
80GB IBM HD
then some other drives and burners and such.

Don't get just a 6800. Get a 6800 GT. Quite a bit quicker than the regular 6800.

Alienware Area 51-Blue Chassis
AMD Athlon FX-53 CPU
1024 GB RAM
120 GB Western Digital Hard Drive
ATI X800 Platinum GPU
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum

Basically, the top of the line from Alienware(minus the ALX) got this beast for my b-day a couple months ago, but just bought the graphics card.

I'm more of an ATI fan though, ryan. Both are good, but when it came down to what card would get me a free copy of Half-Life 2, I took ATI.

nvidia cards slaughter ati cards in opengl products, like what HL2 will be.

Like I said, If Nvidia was doing the same promotion for HL2, I would've bought the 6800 Pro up right there. Sadly, I don't have $350 to spend on another card, but I'm happy with my X800.

Back home:
Athlon-C 1.4Ghz @ 1.688Ghz on Asus A7M-266SE
768MB RAM (ta Cliffeh)
2 x 40GB Seagate 7200rpm
Radeon 9500pro 64MB
SB Live DE 5.1
Lian Li PC-60
Chunky pure copper heatsink and twin high speed fans. You can hear my PC when you come in the front door of my house.
Saitek X45 HOTAS flight system
Thrustmaster rudder pedals
19 inch monitor
...and I'm told my father has purchased a DVD burner since I left home. Win.

I'm buying a new one when I return in December. Not sure whether to go down the 64bit road with AMD or get a rather speedy little P4 2.8 that I can overclock the shit out of - maybe hit 3.4 or 3.5Ghz if I play my cards right.
I'll be going with the X800 as I'm a flight simmer and the games I play perform *much* better with the ATi solution than the Nvidia one. You have no idea how much better anti-aliasing and smoothvision makes a simming experience. Aside from that, my computer really only gets used as a jukebox and photoshopping/dreamweavering/coding platform, for which video card makes no difference.

The current rig will be sold mates rates to my brother. LAN Forgotten Battles? Yes-the-fuck-please.

2.8's dont overclock nearly as well as 2.4c's.
with decent cooling (all copper 92mm fan heatsink or better), you're likely to get atleast 3.2ghz out of a normal 2.4. with a 2.8, you'll probably only hit 3.2 ghz as well, so why pay more for the 2.8 chip when the 2.4 yields similar performance and less cost? well, actually, with a 2.4 and 2.8 running at the same speed (say, 3.2ghz), the 2.4 will perform faster due to a much higher fsb speed than the 2.8, but the point remains the same.

anywho, just an idea.

I really like the new A64 FX53 for gaming performance, but it's fuck expensive. The A64 3000+ and 3200+ overclock very well and are damn nice in games, but it's not worth me upgrading from my 2.4c@3.36.
I'll probably get a 3500+ or 3800+ around Christmas time if they're a decent price and if Intel hasn't released their 64 bit response to the A64 yet.

Yes, the FX-53 was hella expensive, but I'm very impressed with it's performance, beats my 2.4 Gig P4 processor-powered Dell into the ground(it's my parent's) But I'm also curious as to what type of power the P5 will put out, as well as what the Next Xbox/Nintendo Revolution will put out. I hear that both will be powered by 3(!) processors, which is amazing.

40 GB harddrive

XP Pro service pack II

Just simple stuff really.

Hmm, my computer is a relatively simple affair.

Gateway M505 Laptop
Intel Pentium M 1.4 GHz Processor (I'm told the fact that it's a Pentium M means I don't actually need any more Hz, but the guy in the store could totally have been lying to me) with Centrino Mobile Technology.
512 MB RAM
Windows XP Home Edition with service pack 2.
40GB Harddrive
15.4in Monitor (I am LOVING that)
Also, it's got crazy awesome battery life because of the processor and the Centrino.

That's about it. I'm mostly using it for school and wireless, so it's doing exactly what I need it to do, though a DVD burner would be nice.

Pentium 4 2ghz
Geforce 2 MX 64mb
Around 500-600mb of RAM
Around 150-200gb HDD
15" LG Flatron LCD monitor

I got this computer 3-4 years ago, and the HDD and memory is all that I've upgraded over that time. I'm planning on doing a major upgrade soon, but I can't afford it at the moment, but it doesn't bother me too much because I can still run WoW on it :)

I'm not even going to post my specs, cause they'll make you cry. With laughter.

My computer is over 7 years old, but has got all sorts of random stuff my dad got from work stuck in it. It's a lot faster than it needs to be, given I only use it for internet, UT and homework (=Word). In that order. It works though, and hasn't crashed for ages. Win. I now have an ATI 9800 pro AIW, and a shiny 19" Digimate Flatscreen, make might not be great, but I am more than happy with its quality over the last 6 months. I also have 1.5Gb RAM in and have stopped overclocking, having a few memory allocation problems atm, I expect one of my RAM chips is dying.

I had that in my old computer, and I was never able to fix it. I was plagued with crashes, random reboots, illegal ops, and having to start windows with the /maxmem=256 flag just to install things. I'd forgotten how lovely it was to install something without rebooting.

Is it wrong to want to upgrade my computer this year as well?
Probably not a change to the components, but I want a larger computer case which is near silent, and unlike mine doesn't sound like a vacuum cleaner on meth.
Which of course would mean I'd need to get a new motherboard, and while at it, a new 64bit chip, and say 2 gb of ram, and a new harddrive and...
Oh shit.

Cliff actually helped me pick out the components for my machine. Back in February some time so I reckon I'll be pretty ok with it for a while.

Shuttle SN95G
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ @ 2.21 GHz
nVidia GeForce 6800GT
1gb PC3200 Crucial Ballistix RAM
300gb Maxtor DiamondMax SATA 7.2K rpm hard drive.
Philips 17inch widescreen LCD.
Logitech Wireless Desktop Deluxe Optical
Shuttle USB remote control
Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000
Samsung TSH-552U 16 x 16 Dual Layer DVD±RW (Black)
HP PSC 500
USB Sureconnect 9106 (for my wireless network)

I'm thinking I might get myself a Logitech diNovo Media Desktop v2.0, I only got the current Logitech one as it was free with the monitor and so kept my costs down. I work for an IT reseller now and get all components at wholesale cost price so I should be able to afford a few upgrades.

As for speakers, I've hooked my PC up through my stereo which has 5.1 surround sound so I get pretty good sound.
