Nice to have you in the forum juliet, but i don't think it's allowed to start a new tread just to introduce yourself, on the "old" forum it wasn't allowed and the moderators didn't like it (which I understand).
welcome anyway

It is the newcomers forum dude, use your common sense.

And juliet, welcome to our nice, loving and friendly forum.

but i don't think it's allowed to start a new tread just to introduce yourself How did you manage to post in the "Newcomers Forum" without realising that it was a place for people to start introductory threads?

That's classic.

25juliet - welcome to KKW! Are you with our Armed Forces in Iraq?

ok, here are the answers to some of your ?'s: i currently live right outside the city of baghdad, near the airport. it's more of a city area with lots of houses and such, so there's not too much desert where i am. however, farther south is more desert, and i travel there sometimes on patrols. when i was in kuwait it was like a total desert, just like the movies. i was there in february and it was already in the 90's every day. iraq is a little more humid, there are some palm trees here and stuff, so it's not too bad. there are dust (sand) storms sometimes, they are pretty weird. the sky looks orange-brown and you get dust everywhere: you hair, eyes, clothes, ears, food, mouth. it's pretty annoying. you have to wear sunglasses or protective goggles otherwise it gets into your eyes and it's hard to see. hmm, backpacks... well i carry one everyday full of stuff like my discman and some cd's, but as far as gear is concerned, we have a lot. i have four weapons i am responsible for, a pistol, a semi-auto rifle, a saw machine gun, and a 50cal machine gun. i am a gunner so that's why i have the 50cal. basically i ride in the turret on our humvee when we go out on patrols (almost daily) and man the machine gun. it's a little scary, but it's fun, i like it. so i guess i do have to carry quite a bit of ammo and such around. we have a lot of gear we have to wear like kevlar helmets, protective body armor, and such like that, so it can be quite a load. after awhile you tend to get used to it, even with the heat. let's see, what else- recreational time. well, pretty much on my off time i use the internet, call home on the satellite phones (when i can), work out, watch movies, sleep, or listen to music. there really isn't that much to do here. they just opened some pools at the basecamp i am at, but i haven't really had time to go. i will post some recent pics as soon as i download them if you like. i really appreciate the warm welcome you have all given me, and feel free to ask more ?'s if you have any! peace.

Do you ever cut shit in half with the .50 cal just to do it?

only when we're training. i can't do it when we're out on patrols cause i'll get in big trouble. something about the law of war or something like that... lol. but that thing can tear ish up. you put a few rounds into a car and it'll blow up, pretty fun. most people are surprised when they see a chick gunning the 50, but i love it. it's awesome.

Damn, that sounds awesome, no offence or anything, but manning such a large machine gun sounds cool.

Stay safe over there, even us Aussies are thinking about you guys :).
