Lately I've been buying dvd's online that I can't find anywhere else because they're movies I watched when I was little.

I watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles again last night and kept thinking about when that movie first came out, and how exciting it was to see it in the theatre for my brother and I. Then it just got me thinking about all the other stuff I used to play with when I was little. AND THEN I FOUND THESE:

This was my first makeup kit type thing. It had stuff for lips, cheeks and perfume. I just opened it up and it STILL smells really good. Reminds me of my old bedroom growing up.

This was the bikini I had when I was 3, there are loads of baby pictures with me wearing it-

I think I was the most excited about finding these in the basement:

They were my favorite dolls apart from a Little Mermaid doll I had when I was REALLY young (which I can't find :( ).

And my grandma had the movie "Buck Privates" and there's a scene where the Andrews sisters are singing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" which I used to watch all the time and listened to the record.

When I visit my uncle's house.
He lives where my grandfather lived before he passed away. When I was young, we would go there almost everyday, and for about a year, a lot my cousins would be there with us. We have a huge family so it was usually about 30 people in the house. Our family hardly ever gets together like that, so it's pretty nostalgic for me.

And whenever I hear a song that is tied to a specific memory of youth. Like today, we were at a restaurant, and for some reason they had that song that's like "Rhythm is a dancer, it's a voice of champions". I remember once my sisters were putting on a little recital to that song in our living room, my mom was filming with the camcorder. I got jealous and ran around them and was dancing around. I tell my mom about that day, and she figures I just remember watching the home video. But I specifically remember everything.

Ohmygod, I had those same Aladdin and Jasmine dolls. I don't have a lot of the stuff that I wore when I was little. Somewhere is a box with a few things that I'll pass on to my kids, but most of it was passed on to younger cousins and stuff.

Uh...things that remind me of childhood....Well, since you bring up buying old DVDs online, I recently bought season one of The Secret World of Alex Mack. In third grade I was *obssessed* with Alex Mack. I still have some old school work where I use anyway possible to tie Alex Mack into whatever the project was. I was so excited to get home to watch it after I bought it, that it was disappointing to realize how retarded the show seems now.

Haha, I watched The Secret World of Alex Mack too. I was snooping around on youtube a few months ago and found an episode of it and watched it. Yes, it's amazing how we liked really stupid things as kids. I used to watch the Power Rangers for God's sake.

Oh, I forgot that the Spice Girls' first cd reminds me of like 6th grade.

Jake mentioning songs reminds me that when I hear disco music I remember skating (roller rink style) from when I was about five to eight years old.
Taylor says "you used to skate to everything" when I mention a song.

ohhh man. pogs!

I used to have a huge set of pogs, and then someone stole one of my heavy pieces, whatever those were called. I remember being so sad, cuz it was really pretty and gold.

Also, Mary Poppins, I used to watch that almost once a week. There was a time when I watched it every day for a few weeks! =P

Elmo. Catching any segment of Sesame Street works, but I have a soft spot for Elmo and (Super)Grover.

Slammers! I think. I used to get free pogs in the mail, but they were cheap ones that had educational messages like "don't do drugs" and "save the earth."

Lol, I still watch the reruns on Noggin!

How about Salute Your Shorts? Sometimes I find myself humming the theme song.

Heck yeah, I remember Salute Your Shorts. "Camp Anawana, we hold you in our hearts. And when we think about you, it makes me wanna fart!" I looked it up on IMDB one day and it surprised me that it only had 15 episodes. It seemed much longer.

I wasn't really a Pete and Pete fan, I don't know why because I watched nearly everything else.

Leonie, I used to have a red cape when I was 4 (at least that's how old I am in the picture) and I used to run around the house yelling "Super Grover!" So yeah, I get that. :p

I loved Bert and Ernie too.

I never remember watching Sesame Street (though I must have at some point), but remember when that stupid Tickle Me Elmo came out (I think I was in fourth or fifth grade) and all of a sudden Elmo was the coolest thing? God, I remember my friend Meghan giving me an Elmo backpack for my birthday.

I love Elmo for "Elmo nieuwe schoenen, Elmo nieuwe schoenen!" which I can replicate with reasonable skill to this day.

(Elmo has new shoes, Elmo has new shoes!)

I don't know why, but it's stuck with me all these years and when I think of it now, it's just the cutest thing ever.

Sadly, Elmo nieuwe schoenen isn't on YouTube, but this was and oh my god, cute.

I'm watching Elmo on Rove Live (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il2RtPFirq0&feature=related) now. I'm laughing like I'm four. Cheeky Elmo.

Among other things, he tells the presenter of this Aussie TV show that they're about the same size, not to say dickhead, he has a cute burp, he's looking for a girl, and he pretends to be Cookie Monster. HA! If that's not funny, I don't know what is.

This one's particularly funny because Elmo is being really cheeky cause he is on a show for adults, and boy does he know it :D

Yeah, Goosebumps. Jesus.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Ren here, Nickelodeon took a lot out of my time. I think I must've watched every show and game show they had at one time or another throughout the 1990s. I also remember watching The Box -- that music video channel -- anybody remember that one?

Actually, I'm pretty happy those times are over. I look back at those days in utter embarrassment.

Y'all talking about all of these shows on Nickelodeon and such reminds me of something else that reminds me of childhood.
When the cable goes out and I can't pick up a decent channel. Growing up, the NBC and CBS affiliates were the only channels you could reliably pick up. ABC was hit or miss, depending on the weather. There was channel 44 which was simply a UHF broadcaster of old re-runs. Other than that, there were two PBS stations (WEDU and WUSF) which usually showed the same thing. Oh, and WEDU used to show Lawrence Welk on the weekends.
My grandmother was a Welk-head.
