This is a worry. Especially if you happen to come from Kyrgyzstan.

Take those bush loving rednecks with you
And I'll shoot the rest of the idiots
Now everyone knows why I'm ashamed
to be an American

Jay Leno does this once a week, and the results are equally hilarious. They'll hold up a picture of Julius Caesar...blank stares. Hold up a picture of the Little Caesar's (pizza) mascot, and everyone knows the answer.
Christ, one time they went to a graduation ceremony at a major university and stumped graduates with questions simpler than these.

Any country where chrome testicles and a bumper sticker that reads "MY KID BEAT UP YOUR HONOR STUDENT" are standard on pretty much every pick-up truck, can't be putting too high a priority on education.
I want to print a bumper sticker that reads "YOUR KID'S GOING TO WORK FOR MY KID".

:icon_rofl I loved the one with Who was Fidel Castro ?- A singer or the one with how many corners has a triangle- ....4.

But calm down , people like this live all over the world. I saw similary intervievs in Belgium or Germany and I must say they found people who are as stupid as theese ones. Even in my country there are such people. So if you want to get rid of them find yourself another planet.

As much as I hate to admit it, we have a higher percentage. Americans tend to be much less aware of what's going on around the world because they're too focused on whether or not Larry Birkhead is Anna Nicole's baby's daddy. Or, whether or not Don Imus should be drawn and quartered for his "nappy headed ho" remark. Seriously, that shit has dominated news coverage in the morning.

Can you say edited?

It's like the old thing with statistics. Can be twisted to prove anything.

Yeah, I was thinking about how many people they had to go through to get answers like that. But still, those people are out there.

And, I'll fess up, when I read the title for this thread, the first thing that popped into my head was Yugoslavia. Then I thought about it for a second.

Those people are everywhere. When I was in New York in January I was amazed by just how many people had an excellent knowledge of English geography. And not all of them were from the state, before someone says "Yeah, but that's New Yorkers". Made me rethink a lot of things.

I actually thought of Ukraine and Uganda. Shows how English I feel because I never think of this country as the "United Kingdom" at all, except for form-filling.

Can't really say I thought "Yugoslavia", seeing as my country does start with a U. :p

Interesting question: Who else here doesn't think of the US as the "US" but rather "America"? or "the states". I find myself saying "the states" when talking and using "America" when writing.

I always say "the States". Unless I'm feeling lazy. Then it's U.S.A.

I speak "America" because it's easiest. But form filling, like you said. I write United States of America.

We got those people here too. Just a couple of hours ago I watched a program where none of the asked people could say why we have easter.
It's well known that these "programs" can be and probably are edited to prove their point.

It's actually getting a bit old.
