I know that there must be a few on this forum....
Tell me -- what games are you playing now, and what are your favorites?

I'd have to say that my all-time favorite game is an RPG for the old 8-bit NES, called Crystalis. I still bust it out and play through about once a year or so. So far this console generation, Resident Evil 4 has impressed me the most.

Right now, I'm doing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Yes, I know it's old, but for some reason I never played through this one. It's good, but after San Andreas, nothing could really compete. I also just got done with Black, for the PS2. It sucked.

Command And Conquer: Zero Hour, screwing around with the General Challenges because they're easy fun but still consumes some time. Also playing Knights of Lodis (GBA), racing a friend to see who finishes it first.

World of Warcraft.

I'm just getting into end-game stuff now. With this game Blizzard have created a seamless world where you can do anything you like. When you step back and look at the game they have made, you never cease to be amazed. And it only gets better the more you play. I currently play 6 characters - hunter, priest, druid, mage, warlock and warrior, and every class feels like playing a different game.

Aside from WOW, I play a bit of Battlefield 2 and a lot of serious flight simulation.

I am partial to the original, but I think it adds nicely to the PD legacy.

The weapons are pretty amazing and the gameplay is fun. My only complaint is that some of the maps are ridiculously huge (to allow for 32 players) and can get kind of overwhelming at times. I prefer to play some of the round-based tactical games (like Counterstrike) so that way the levels are compacted.

Overall though, a great game. 8/10

Currently I'm playing Katamari Damacy for PS2, Silent Hill 2 for PS2, and Resident Evil 4 for GCube. I submit that Katamari is the most addictive game ever. If you have a PS2 you need to get it (unless you really hate quirky Japanese culture.) Silent Hill 2 I bought when it first came out, but never beat it, so I'm playing through it again. Creepy stuff. I'm in the hospital right now with Maria. And Resident Evil 4 I've beaten countless times, but I play through it non-stop because it's one of my favorites.

As for my favorite games of all tizime: (I'll just do a top ten)
1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Definitely the best game I've ever played. It will always be my favorite because it's the first game that really drew me in and that I actually cared about. This was the game that made me a nerd.
2. Resident Evil 4 - Cheesey action story and awesomely terrible dialog didn't get in the way of the superb game. I couldn't believe how this game held up, it looked amazing, it played flawlessly. I was pregnant after I completed the game, and I was bearing a little baby Salzibar. Don't worry, I had him aborted.
3. Super Mario 64 - Everyone knows why this game rocked, I won't waste time explaining.
4. Mario Kart - I have some good memories of hanging out with 3 of my friends from my street about 6 years ago. We'd play Mario Kart battles every day. Every fucking day.
5. Goldeneye - We'd also play Goldeneye every day. (I was the best at this game)
6.Shadow of the Colossus - This game is awesome. I love how it looks and feels, and it's short so you can play through and get the whole experience multiple times. The depth of everything seriously made my mouth water. How the bosses were 70 times your size and you had to bring them down. Oh man.
7. Metal Gear Solid - All of the series. Though the first one is my favorite. It's an awesome storyline with the coolest man every thought up. Clint Eastwood meets Plissken. Beautiful stuff.
8. Metroid Prime - Surprised everyone. It was funny how many jokes people made about how lame Metroid in 3d was going to be. And it completely rocked the shit out of everyone. God bless Retro studios.
9. Onimusha - The first one, especially. All the issen crap and the timing and the pretty scenes. Fun game. Samurai have a special place in my heart.
10. I'd have to say Paper Mario series or Katamari for the 10 spot. Paper Mario is an awesome RPG, perfect mario quirkiness with an interesting storyline and supporting characters. And Katamari for it's addictive gameplay.

The best Mario game since... i don't remember. I have some 62 hours on The Thousand Year Old Door and never beat it because of that damn three boss fights in a row. Resident Evil 4 is one balls rad game, especially when you get and max out the Broken Butterfly, your ass is invincible.

I liked the movie a lot. But don't expect much out of it . . . It's exactly like the games. Exactly. The most wooden dialoge ever. But it's cool if you like the games, you'll get the references.
It's funny because one part of the movie, there's ashes falling from the sky and the heroine looks up and a flake hits her face. She smears it on her face and looks at her hand and say, "I think this is ash . . ." and the people in the theatre laughed at how stupid it sounded, but that's spoken just like it would be in the game, so i didn't have a problem

I have Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3. I bought all three of them for less than 25 bucks. Which is awesome. Still have to get the fourth, but my friends ruined it for me, I know everything about it already.

And Swords, Paper Mario fookin rocks. When I get the Wii, the first Paper Mario is one of the first games I'll buy from the Virtual Console thing.

3. Super Mario World-best Mario of all time, no matter what SM64 fan says
4. Metroid Prime-First Zelda, then Metroid makes the perfect transition to 3D
5. Resident Evil 4-most fun I've had in a game since Half-Life. Seriously
6. Halo-since I'm a fanboy
7. Final Fantasy VII-required in all top 10 lists:P

Even though I have a limited and rather low knowledge of video games (on any system); I still consider myself a gamer. The latest system I've bought is the GameCube, in which I only own ONE game. I remember being amazed at how well the graphics were when I played Mario Kart: Double Dash at my local K-Mart. And I bought the system for that reason alone. I still haven't purchased RE4 yet, Jake. I'm sorry.

My gaming experience usually involves my (S)NES, N64, and PSOne consoles. The most embarrassing problem for me, I suppose, is that I avoid difficult games. Seriously. Whenever I see trailers, or video reviews for games, I immediately become discouraged if they look anything even remotely like Halo. I've played Halo once, on X-Box--didn't like it. First of all, I couldn't figure out how to play the game, or what I was suppose to do. I couldn't walk straight, very difficult to even move (it took me almost an hour before I gave up), and the remotes are most uncomfortable. But in all fairness, I'm pretty sure it just takes a little getting use to.

I guess you can say I'm old-fashioned. Pfft. On PS1, I enjoy the Resident Evil series VERY much, and I'm still addicted to those kind of games: Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve, Crash Bandicoot, and to a much lesser degree: Spyro, Broken Sword, Mission Impossible...I think you're getting the picture. On N64, (who else thinks N64's controllers are the most comfortable of them all, or is it just me?) Yes, like Jake said, Super Mario 64 is a must, Goldeneye, of course, a little 1080, Diddy Kong Racing, Starfox 64, and Mario Kart 64 is practically essential.

I really can't see myself buying any of the latest game consoles; at least not until I see a decent game that can really strike a cord with me. But even that isn't such a good idea, and I'm trying to get out of the habit of doing something as precarious as that. I do, however, have every intention of continuing my GameCube experience--with the likes of RE(4).

I've bored you, haven't I?

I beat Hitman:Blood Money the other day. Was never a fan of Hitman until i started to play this, it's actually a good time if you like to kill people and be sort of stealthy. It's sort of like Metal Gear but with very short missions and in the streets. The end was pretty rad. GTA:Liberty City Stories can S-my-D, this game is just Vice City but in the Liberty City.

Oh Richard i just remembered , they remade the original Resident Evil games and put them on Gamecube. You can probably find them on eBay. I've never looked on eBay though, all i know is that i can't find them at normal stores.

Yeah, I know, but have you seen the prices RE2 and RE3 are going for on ebay, factory sealed, I mean? I can't buy used games. They have to be sealed because I can't stand scratches, of any kind, I'll go ballistic! Why? Because I'm anal. Much like movies, I have to watch them from beginning to end, and with video games, they have to be 100% completed, 101% if possible. I have to get everything and unlock everything. I can't possibly move onto another game without doing that.

Black is fun in a disc, just sheer fun. No difficult story to comprehend, easy controls, enough guns and ammo to blow up anything, and a short game for short attention spans.

You're getting a PS3 right away? I have to wait a few months so that goddamn price will go down. At least Wii managed to stay under 300 bucks. Pffft, i'd take Zelda over WoW any day. I'm not really hating on WoW, i'm just saying if i measure them up, it's Zelda.

I've been pretty old-school lately. I've been obsessed with my Super Nintendo and I'm thinking about buying a gameboy color from ebay. :icon_err:

Indeed. cartoony graphics were a bit off putting at first, but i got quite engrossed in it. that and it was funny throwing pigs into the sea...

Wind Waker had a lack-luster story to it, and some things were a bit cheesey. But the game was totally gorgeous and the gameplay was really addictive and easy to use.

I wasn't turned off by the graphics because I <3 cartoons. But it is nice knowing TP will be awesomely gritty.

I actually liked the graphics style for Wind Waker....
As far as cell shading goes, you can't top it.

And, yes -- Twilight Princess looks like it will rock. Reportedly, they're going to release two versions of the game: one for the GameCube, and one for the Wii, which should come out around the same time. I guess the Wii version will have some additional features; probably involving its controller.

Oh, and I picked up Mario Tennis for the GBA the other day to get me through a power outage. The game sucks. It's not nearly as good as the GameCube Mario Tennis.

You need a powerhouse system for a good Mario Tennis game. Well at least something 64-powerful. Which isn't considered a powerhouse system anymore, but you know what I mean.

And yeah, the Wii/GC versions of the new Zelda were announced in May. Wii version will have different control scheme obviously, and will have mini-games that feature the use of the control (controler used as fishing rod, etc.)

edit: First Impressions. The control system is appaling. The dialog is flat and boring. The voice of Will is... well... shockingly bad... this doesnt look to hopefull :icon_err:

ah well, i'll see how it pans out. I hoped it would be better than the first pirates game....

............

Edit: oh dear god. this is appauling. its a strit ps2 to pc port. "rotate the left ananlog stick".............. erm? how the fuck?

i give up... 10 minutes in and my verdict is. its shit. if you want it. buy the ps2 version.

I'm just going to end up getting both. I probably won't get a Wii until it drops down to 200 bucks. If i'm lucky i'll get one for Christmas. They're going to use the controller for some bitchin' sword and arrow action as well.

Heh 2 hours a day. Try Championship Manager obsession when you end up pulling all-nighters just to play it. Every day. For several weeks. Until you end up with chronic sleep deprivation and just need to sleep.

I sweat that game's evil. I'm currently playing the Football Manager incarnation (as SI split from Eidos last year) and I'm hooked.

I've recently been playing titan quest.

If you've played diablo II, this is pretty much the successor.
If you want proof, items have a prefix and a suffix, and it is entirely possible to get a Brutal Sword of Destruction, or Warriors Axe of Speed.
It is pretty what diablo II should have looked like graphically. It is absolutely stunning. Real time shadows, HDR, volumetric lighting, Age of Empires style attention to microdetail (it was created by one of the makers of AoE)

If Diablo 1 or 2 was your crack cocaine, do not play this game. (unless you're a masochist) The game is about 30-40 hours long, and thats for the easiest difficulty. There is three (just like diablo II) but this time its called normal, epic, legendary. There are 8 different masteries, with the ability to dual class at level 8. Which means there are a total of 36 different classes you can play. Replayability is sick.

Set in ancient greece, egypt, the orient the artistic touches and enemies in the game are wonderful realised. Did I mention the game was pretty?
1680 x 1050 with temporal antialiasing and hq 16xaa brings a tear to my eye.

Play it if you dare.

I'm finally playing Sid Miere's Pirates!. Good fun even though actually finishing the game's main plot isn't that enticing. Going as the Dutch with the Spanish and French hating me, awesome stuff sacking their cities.

That is an awesome game. Although I'm not sure how you every finish playing the game. I've played it through several times.
My favourite ship was probably the royal sloop, although going around decimating pirates in a stolen ship of the line was always good fun.

The plot finish for the game is beating Montabaln, the Marquis person in the introduction cut scene. I'm nowhere close to that since I haven't even chased down Baron Raymando enough times yet... Though I guess you could say finding the Lost City or just retiring with max stats for wealth, fame etc is the end too.. I've got the Royal Sloop too, betrayed the silly French, ambushed their Peace Treaty ship to the Poms. Also have a back up frigate for paranoia's sake.

I've found that the Royal Sloop is the best ship for hunting pirates, or attacking much larger frigates. Although as history has shown, if a large frigate or a ship of the line gets a full broadside of chain shot on you, you are pwned.
