Alright I'm extremely bored and definately do not want to start my spanish homework...so I decided to start this thread :)

Just post something you have purchased recently and put pictures up or what ever. It can be anything like a bottle of water to a new computer. (like it really matters, most of these threads are just an excuse for spam or a way for me to brag about my trip! ;) )

I'll start but no pictures until tomorrow

1: Trip to Bahamas (end of senior year...going with tons of friends!)
2: New golf driver (Callaway Big Bertha ti 454) got a really good deal on it as it was slightly used by some guy at the local course/range

Wireless Mouse

19-10-2005, 10:55 AM
Since I Stayed at my summer house and I don't clean the house often
I bought a Asian House boy to clean and cook for me
Liam sold him to me at a great bargan price

19-10-2005, 03:23 PM
I like the wireless mouse, but I don't agree with how much they cost. Besides, I hear if you have multiple computers in the same room (which I do) the connection or whatever the tech word is, might go bonkers.

I also like the wireless keyboard. To answer the topic's question, I just or I'm going to I should say, purchase that Audrey Hepburn biography written by her son Sean Ferrer. It's getting great reviews and its got loads of pictures.

Ripped off the salesman? How exactly?
Because phones salesmen are working with products with insane amounts of markup.

Ripped off the salesman? How exactly?
Because phones salesmen are working with products with insane amounts of markup.

Appreciated but I didn't buy the phone, was free with contract, and having looked around at various contracts, this one seemed to suit me best. I did my own research, didn't just go for the contract recommended as I know they get signing bonuses for signing customers up with certain networks.

However I also managed to get accessories worth £70 for free too. The catch was, the guy wanted me to sign up for phone insurance. He even called the manager when I baulked at that, the manager came over, tried to "puppy dog close" by offering to pay the first month's insurance premium.

Then he tried to "fear close" me but I was having none of it, threatened to walk out and leave, think it over, maybe go elsewhere, and then he renegotiated. In the end, I got the accessories, without the insurance, which I didn't want, and the phone and the contract I wanted.

Put it this way, the salesman was made to jump through some hoops, as was the manager, I got what I wanted, at a price (in terms of the contract) I was happy with. The manager went from being quite aggressive with me to being very timid, almost depressed, with the next customer, and the salesman looked desperate.

I realise a great part of this is "bleeding" and at the end of the day, the salesman's job is to make you think you got a good deal, I do it all the time, but the difference is, I got what I wanted, and they didn't get everything they wanted. The one thing a salesman hates is losing control to the customer and I took it from him, which was so much fun.

Makes it hard to hate on the buyers I have to deal with though...

22-10-2005, 11:12 PM

Digital, here's the contact information for my Shidoshi's schools. I was in a branch dojo in Berlin, but I know there are at least 30 dojo's throughout the UK. If neither of these are close, let me know where you are and I can probably locate a school close to you. Brin is former SAS, and an awesome instructor.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the t-shirts Jake.
I bought http://www.subpop.com/bands/postalservice/images/album_small.gif

Oh yeah, and my favorite

08-03-2006, 09:31 PM
I thought you'd like the shirts! :)
The bird one is actually on sale right now, so if you're looking for a cheap band shirt i would suggest that one. It's 12 bucks.

And what's that second album?

Today I bought 52 dollars worth of movies. But it was worth it.

09-03-2006, 03:26 AM
The last three are great, as we all know. I haven't seen the other two.

11-03-2006, 07:46 AM
Arctic Monkey's album Whatever People Say, That's What I'm Not. Truth: It's not one of my absolunte favorites, but it works. I also bought the Walk the Line Soundtrack and it's really good. It's like listening to Cash, but not at the same time. Good stuff.

Edit: Jake, nice job on Casablanca. I have to 2 disc collectors set. It's just an amazing movie

29-03-2006, 10:37 PM
Today - peanut butter M&Ms - speckled eggs & Biore deep-cleansing face wash.

Yesterday - a electronic guitar toy thingy that makes LOTS of noise for my newphew's third b-day which is coming up on 4/3/06 (I guess it would be 3/04/06 for the Brits...right???)...somehow I know I'll just regret it since I live with him and he LOVES making noise with his toys. I swear he will be a musical genius once we get him on real insturments.

Last week - two shirts for my nephew from Old Navy (one for Easter one for his b-day),a pair of pinstripe pants for me, and a new long-sleeved collared shirt for me. Old Navy is DANGEROUS...must stay away.

29-03-2006, 10:56 PM
i purchased a pair of what i call

"swishy pants" for running

Aww. Congratulations Liam. You must be very proud. He's got your eyes.

No, seriously, that's a fucking cool guitar.

31-05-2006, 02:47 PM
Gaw! Nicely done, Liam.

Did you buy it from an online retailer, or from a shop near home? I am also going to buy an axe this summer, and I was looking into musiciansfriend.com...

I'm thinking maybe

31-05-2006, 04:27 PM

I bought the Dutch version even though I'm not sure about the actual utility of these kind of softwares

31-05-2006, 07:15 PM
Nice V Liam, you've been after one for ages...
Although why is it not black?

I bought the following in the last month:

With these lenses:

This Flash:

This Bag:

And this memory card:

And therefore I am poor.

31-05-2006, 07:17 PM
is that the new konika dynax7D? sweeeeeeet.
well. yes, i know its not that new, but still.

31-05-2006, 07:23 PM
Bought it on clearance, brand new at Dixons of all places for 360 quid. Which is over 1/3 original retail, 1/2 current retail. The flash I bought at a different dixons for 1/4 retail price. You gotta love clearance sales due to Sony swallowing up Konica Minolta.

31-05-2006, 10:21 PM
To answer the questions:

I found the guitar online at a stockist of rare guitars (its almost impossible to get a Flying-V in such condition, let alone brand new, unless you order one from the factory) and made the trip down to southern Sydney to pick it up. If I were you, out of the two guitars you showed, I'd take the Epiphone. My dad used to play in a gigging band and had an Ibanez bass for a while, and he said it was the worst instrument he ever had. My guitar is an Epiphone-Gibson, like the top one you posted. Honestly, its best to get one from a store rather than online - that way you can ask to hear the guitar played (make sure it doesnt have a bad action or buzzy strings) before you make a decision.

I didn't get a black one cause its the cheaper model with shitty pickups. My one has proper Gibson humbuckers on it, and the sound is amazing. Its a bit light on for really heavy metal work without some sort of effects system between the guitar and amp but its fine for Metallica-style stuff. Amon Amarth is out until I can get a booster or something for it.

01-06-2006, 12:06 AM
Yeah my buddy said he's unsure about Ibanez. He wants me to go Gibson, but I think I'll settle with Epiphone. A Gibson is definitely a quality guitar, and I'd WANT one, but I wouldn't want to drop an extra 400 dollars for one. Especially since I'm only a hobbyist.

I was planning on going to a guitar shop and playing around with the models I saw online, and see if I can talk the shop owner down to the online price... or just buy the one I like online. I tried judging by the customer reviews but they can be vague and contradictory. "The 6e buzzes on the 12th fret" "All crisps sounds though, absolutely perfect!". Never trust people.

01-06-2006, 12:09 AM
Looking at the picture of the Epiphone you posted...see that little thing at the bottom of the head? If its like mine, and I'm sure it is, thats a Gibson badge.

01-06-2006, 12:53 AM
I thought that's because Epiphone is owned by Gibson...I was under the impression that Epiphone basically makes same models as Gibson, only with the cheaper wood.

I figured the Gibson badge shows it's a Gibson model, only made by Epiphone with the Epiphone materials.

01-06-2006, 01:49 AM
This is might be a dumb question and probably is. Do all Gibsons have such a heavy sound. I've only played one Gibson guitar (Les Paul) but from what the other Gibsons sound like they all just sound heavy. I also have a Fender Telecaster with a real light sound which is mad bitchin.

Oh and i bought Killer 7 for Gamecube. The shit is so fucking trippy, i love it.

01-06-2006, 01:59 AM
As I understand it, or as it was explained to me, the Gibson badge on an Epiphone-built guitar means that its a Gibson design built at the Epiphone works in Korea. Gibson guitars are generally built in the USA. Not sure how accurate this is, but I dont care - my guitar sounds amazing.

I can't really answer the heaviness question as this is the first guitar I've had that has had anything to do with Gibson (I have played a 1967 Gibson EB-3 bass - and man...they dont build 'em like they used to. Beautiful sound.) but I actually thought the heaviness was a bit light on. Before this I played an ESP AX-50 that I had borrowed, which looks sort of like a cross between a Warlock and a Flying-V, and it sounded much heavier but it was much more prone to feedback and buzzing than my current one. That might be an amplifier issue as I'm only playing through a 15W practice amp, but I doubt it cause the amp is a beauty: Roland Cube 15.

01-06-2006, 10:24 PM
From what I remember, Epiphone is the 'budget' brand made in Korea, but the quality is pretty darn good. It is quite often cheaper just because of lower labour costs. There are particular models in the epiphone range which are said to be better than their Gibson equivilents.

I wanted one of the epiphone les pauls at one point... how my obsessions wander.

02-06-2006, 06:31 AM
Hreh I almost bought a Les Paul.

I was actually going to get a second hand Rickenbacker bass for a while, but I was dead keen on switching to the 6-string full time, and as some of you know I've wanted a V for years.

Quite happy with the decision. :)

02-06-2006, 02:36 PM

I was refering to the Gothic V, the one with the red pickups? Looks the business. I mainly decided against buying a guitar because playing and owning one would cramp my style.

02-06-2006, 11:03 PM
This one? : http://epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=38&CollectionID=5

I prefer my pickups to the open coil ones, but I suppose thats a matter of personal taste. I suppose that if I had come across the Goth V with a more reasonable price (cheapest I saw was $1000, which is ridiculous for a beginner like myself) I could have convinced myself to get it, but I got an awesome deal on the Korina 58 ($200 off, free bag, oil etc) which allowed me to get a better amplifier.

The beauty of the Korina styled V is that I can use it to play many different styles of music...the Gothic V looks a bit out of place outside of heavy metal.

03-06-2006, 12:38 AM
You're right of course. I myself prefer the wood finish to black. I would have wanted a rusty brown / mahongany coloured les paul, if I was going to get one. I'd probably look a tad silly with a flying V. But then again, i'd look silly with a explorer, les paul, and strat.

03-06-2006, 10:20 AM
Got tired of jonesin' to watch this so I finally succumbed to my desire and bought it:

03-06-2006, 10:25 AM
I've always liked that film but get slated for it. Fuck it, I like it.

03-06-2006, 10:44 AM
Haz, I love you *mwah*. How can anyone slate you for loving a movie about implied Lesbianism?

03-06-2006, 10:59 AM
Haz, I love you *mwah*. How can anyone slate you for loving a movie about implied Lesbianism?

Apparently it makes me very gay. Although I'm not a woman. If I was, it may make sense, but as you point out, it's about lesbians. And it's bloody moving. Oh wait, I might have figured where the "gay" jibes came from..."moving" is hardly a masculine adjective.

Sod it, I still like it.

03-06-2006, 02:01 PM
Not sure whether to admit to buying this today...

Sod it...I like Dolly.

03-08-2006, 11:30 PM

And because my old graphics card seemed to be incompatible with the new one, I now have a brand spanking new x1900gt 256mb :)

I was going to get a 7600gt, but at the computer fair in Tottenham court road, the prices for it were pretty high. For 20 quid more I could have the x1900gt, and I thought 'I make that money in about 2 hours' and bought it.
