Okay, new lyrics thread. We're going to do this mother facker right. Last time people were posting entire fucking songs and we all know no one actually read through each and every song that was posted.
So...this time you only post one stanza that you like. Try to keep it under four lines. Seriously, if this becomes another thread where people post 40 lines of some Jack Johnson shit I will rip off the balls of the guilty. And if the person who disobeys is ballless...I will sew balls onto you, and then tear them off. I have very great sewing skills, I actually won 2nd place in the national sewing crease competition, so I assure you it will be painful for you when I do the ripping.

So, childs. Let's see them lyrics so we all can judge you by the music you listen to. And if you post shitty lyrics and someone makes fun of you, find a picture of a hot person on google and post it here (http://www.kkwavefront.org/forums/showthread.php?t=34). Then everyone will value your word as if you were Ralph Waldo Emerson, Mother Teresa, or Dr. Phil. That's honestly how internet forums work. Just look at Acliff. No one would talk to him until he posted the pictures of that poor Asian boy's stomach.

I'm not veering off topic on the first post of my own thread, so don't even think that.

The first lyric I can think of that's pretty clever is from a Unicorns song called "Peach Moon":

Why is it that lightning strikes so perfectly at night?
(then later in the song...)
Why is it that thunder purrs so strikingly at night?

See what they did there? They do it all the time and it's brilliant. Now it's your turn! Wait, nevermind! No one ever replies to my threads! Someone will start this same goddamn thread tomorrow and it will become the next hit. (Don't get any ideas...)

I just realized that lyrics sometimes only seem great because the music in the song is great. Whatever.

When I go fishing
for the words
I am wishing you would say to me,
I am really only praying that
The words you'll soon be saying
Might betray
The way you feel about me
But to me,
Coming from you,
Friend is a four letter word

I'm bored. Are you?

Alright I know it's over 4 lines, but if I cut it down it wouldn't have the same effect. So suck on it.

Ahem.... anyway...

From Straylight Run's "Existentialism on Prom Night"
There are moments when,
When I know it and
The world revolves around us,
And we're keeping it,
Keeping it all going,
This delicate balance,
Vulnerable all knowing,

Ashley's mention of prom night made me think of...

Went to the prom wore the fly blue rental,
Got six girlies in my Lincoln Continental.
Met a girl at the party and she started to flirt,
Told her some rhymes and she pulled up her skirt.

Oops, forgot to mention it's the Beastie Boys...The New Style

Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole
Just like a faucet that leaks and there is comfort in the sound
But while you debate half-empty or half-full
It slowly rises, your love is gonna drown.

^ Marching Bands of Manhattan. Great song by Death Cab for Cutie. The best off their new album.

He said: "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But ya ought to thank me, before I die,
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you Sue."

Boy Named Sue
Johnny Cash

I know it's six lines Jake..."sue" me. :p

And, along the lines of the song you mentioned in you original post...

The boy said, "My name's Johnny
And it might be a sin
But I'll take your bet, your gonna regret
'Cause I'm the best that's ever been."

and then later, he tells deviljet...

Johnny said, "Devil, just come on back
if you ever wanna try again.
I done told you once,
You son-of-a-bitch,
I'm the best that's ever been!"

Er, song lyrics right?

Some say there's a heaven, for those who will wait.
Some say it's better but I say it ain't.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints...
The sinners are much more fun...

I'm personally not a great fan of death metal, but Opeth's new album is simply shit-kicking (I say this having listened to it in a very cool record shop).

Oh, and my chosen lyrics?
From Foo Fighters- 'Monkey Wrench':
'One last thing before I quit,
I never wanted any more
Than I could fit into my head,
I still remember every single word you said,
and all the shit that somehow came along with it,
still there's one thing that comforts me,
Since I was always caged and now I'm free.'

Cream Tales of Brave Ulysses

Her name is Aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell
And you know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands
With tales of brave Ulysses, how his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing.

This is a very interesting topic

Iron Maiden - Revelations
Just a babe in the black abyss,
No reason for a place like this,
The walls are cold and souls cry out in pain,
An easy way for the blind to go,
A clever path for the fools who know
The secret of the Hanged Man - the smile of his lips

Nine Inch Nails - Right Where It Belongs

See the animal in his cage that you built,
Are you sure what side you're on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye,
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built,
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart,
And it's all...right where it belongs

Sean Watkins- Let It Fall
My kingdom's walls have fallen down
But I know that
I don't wear an undeserved crown
Though it seemed to fit me well
Underneath it
I would certainly fall down

Somebody More Like You- Nickel Creek
You said you'd love me always truely.
