Something on the softer side...

I've been watching a few musicals this past month and kinda wondered what everyone's favorites were. They can be from a movie or even from a stage production.

1. Singin' In The Rain
2. My Fair Lady (I'm speaking of the one with Audrey Hepburn. Haven't seen the Julie Andrews version).
3. Grease
4. The Wizard of Oz
5. The Sound of Music

...and an honorable mention to 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers'.

42nd Street by far. I also like West Side Story a lot. Does Shrek count as a musical? They do sing occasionally.

I would've said West Side Story, but the music wasn't really that good. The choreography was magnificent though, and one of the main reasons why I love that film.

Oh, and let me give a shout out to Summer Stock with Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. Another good musical I'd say.

Moulin Rouge?

I really liked Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat when I saw it at the Crown Uptown theatre in Wichita. It's a bit different for a musical, but it's like telling an old story in modern language.

I saw M. Butterfly, Cats and A Chorus Line on Broadway when most of you were in diapers or the womb. A Chorus Line was fantastic. Cats, not so much. Les Miserables is good, as is the stage production of The Lion King. I took my daughter to Disney/MGM Studios this weekend, and the Great Movie Ride always gets me in the mood to see some old musicals.

I don't really like most musicals (okay, I abhorr them), but I loved South Park the Movie, and also The Happiness of the Kutakaris (I think that's the right spelling... It's a very nice, weird and wacky film- seek it out and smile).

it seems like everybody fucking hates the sound of music and i don't see why. okay, well, maybe i do. the sound of music is my favorite musical, if not because i think it's a fantastic play (and movie), then because it was the first movie i can remember watching and being simply enthralled with as a toddler. i wanted to BE maria von trapp.

cats is a close second. and my fair lady.
