Channel 4 news today was going through the top 5 girls and boy names of 2004

Apparently "Keira" was the most increased from the year before (2003) now at number 53 (100 places up) and Kiera has also increased dramatically at 93.

Number 1 girls name of 2004 is still Emily and boys is still Jack

would you call your baby Keira? :p

No way,
"Keira" is ok, but I don’t think I would name my daughter “Keira”
"Lara" or "Laura/laure" (Larisa from dc Zhivago :p) are one of my favourites for a girl,
I don’t really have favourites for a boy.

More than likely not.

No, I don't get it. What do you mean?

I probably wouldn't name my daughter Keira. Sort of clashes with my last name. I already have a boy name picked out for a boy if I ever have one. That name...is "Niko".

Its a nice name, wouldn't mind a daughter having it. I've got a while to go though heh.

Nope.

My daughter is going to be called either Leigh or Elise, and my son is going to be either Rob or Mackenzie (shut up, I like that name for a guy!).

i've always thought Grace was a pretty name for a girl.

Keira's a cool name. But she's the only whire girl I know with that name.

If I have a girl i'll want to name her Taegan. Boy'll be Julian.

If i had kids
i'd name my son either Jimmy or Eric (for Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton)
and my daughter Alice (for Alice in Wonderland)

yeah, Alice is the best girls name, by far.

As for boys names, fuck, would have to be Brendon, recon.

Whatever I name my kids, they will have more exciting names than mine. I hate my real name. I think I wanna legally change it.

For girls- I think Rianne is pretty.
For boys- I wanna name him Sabrina :P

I usually think of using traditional, biblical names or names from ancestors like my daughter was named the same as my wife's great-grandmother.
On another note, I was working with a man who brought his daughter to work with him and her name is Cara. When he introduced her, I asked him, "Spell her name for me?" and he obliged. I didn't tell him why I asked him to spell it was because with their thick south Texas accent it sounded more like Keira rather than Cara. Kids can be pleased with their names or embarrassed by them for the rest of their life. I wonder how the late great Frank Zappa's kids really feel about being named Dweezle, Ammet & Moon-unit?

I'm pretty sure dweezle loves his name

When I was 12 or so, I wanted to name my daughter Britannia. I have no idea why. It sounded pretty I guess. There's a lot of freaky names out there. In fact, I know this one guy named Uber.

Is not, all I can think of with that name is the Australian swimmer Keiran Perkins and those old annoying Uncle Toby ads. I've only heard Keira once more, one of the babies off Rugrats i think?

That's funny, but I've always thought the same thing. Lara is a pretty name, and I like the spelling better than Laura, sort of like Sean > Shaun.
We considered naming our daughter Lara, but the ex wanted her middle name to be Simone. Had to nix it, otherwise our daughters initials would have been LSD.

Seriously...
I have to go with family names. Taylor is a family name on the ex's side. Carter is a family name that works for both sexes. Hastings and Ingram make good middle names.

I think Keira's quite a nice name but I would call my child something else like Amelia

There is a man named "Prince Albert" in Clay County Alabama simply because when my great-uncle Heston went around collecting money for his mother, he put the money in an old Prince Albert cigar box.

i probabaly wouldn't name my children after celebrities either

but i like your idea of naming them by characters :)

That would cause a lot of confusion as her mother would also be called Keira ;)
