I watched this movie this weekend because it had been a while since I had seen it. It's a good movie but weird. Did anyone else find it as weird as I did? Oh well it was still a good movie and I recommend it to those who haven't seen it yet. Even though it's a fictitious story it really does kind of give you a look at just what the atrocities of war can do to a persons psyche. For those who have seen it I'd like to know what you thought of it.

Ugh, I was going to watch it on TV on Sat...but I didn't.

I'm so ashamed that I STILL haven't seen this movie.

If you liked it I suggest you read Heart of Darkness.

This is unnatural. AMC, right?

I nearly passed out half way through the film and was tired when it was finished. Who knew that can happen just sitting on your ass?

I'm sure many of you will say this is the best war movie ever made, and I thought it was very good - but I don't think it's the best war movie. Best movie about the depiction of the war at Vietnam, but not the best war movie. I enjoyed it, I paid attention, and it's good movie to watch. That's really all I have to say about it.

One of the best war movies of all time, and I loved all the explosions in it(call it-I'm a pyro)

Full Metal Jacket is better.

Full Metal Jacket is better.

No it's not. Kubrick was probably the best director ever, but his only two films that compete with Apocalypse Now are Dr. Strangelove and 2001.

Well, I may have not have openly said that Full Metal Jacket is better, but I would prefer that over Apocalypse Now anyday. Though I haven't seen 2001 : Space Odyssey, Dr. Stranglove is a remarkably brilliant movie. Just thought I'd say that.

Clockwork Orange is also better than Apocalypse Now.

I don't normally post useless nonsense as it will eventually be considered spam... but that is true. Too true.

Check out Platoon if your interested in Nam' movies. Its another great movie if you didn't see it yet. I liked it better than Apoc. Now...not that that matters, but Charlie Sheens got some great lines in it.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to say he's the BEST director ever, but he's definetaly up there. But as for war movies, Full Metal Jacket is DEFINETALY the best, in my opinion.

Why the hell are you guys comparing Kubrick's films to Apocalypse Now? The two couldn't be more different.

Personally, I have never seen a better war film than Apocalypse Now. I think it is a masterpiece in every way (except for Brando's ridiculous performance), and is definitely one of the best films ever made.

I disagree. Brando played the part perfectly.

All Brando did was get drunk and fat and sat on his backside during the shoot. He didn't read the script, nor did he read Hearts of Darkness. His performance is amusingly silly.

It's true that Brando was a great actor, but only when he put forth a reasonable amount of effort. And after The Godfather, he never did.

I'm not sure you can say that until you've seen Apocalypse Now. I used to love FMJ, and in truth it's a totally different kind of movie to AN, but AN is easily the best war movie of all time, and one of the greatest movies of all time, directed by an equally skilled director as Kubrick, the legendary Francis Ford. I personally think Apocalypse Now is such a good mindfuck that it has to beat out any other war movie. Sure, Platoon and FMJ are both great movies, but AN actually puts you right in the mindset of a soldier in the midst of the horrors of war. For that, it has to win.
