London Boulevard
29 January 2009 by Camille
Variety reports that Farrell and Keira Knightley will be starring in the independent crime drama “London Boulevard.” The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter William Monahan (”The Departed”), who is really the go-to guy when it comes to crime thrillers.
Based on Ken Bruen’s well-reviewed thriller, “London” will see Farrell playing the sort of part he’s best at — a South London criminal, fresh out of prison, who is trying to live the straight life. He gets a job as a handyman for a reclusive young actress. Naturally, he can’t quite escape his violent past, and of course it will threaten his new life and love affair — and he’ll respond to the thugs and criminals of his circle with a terrible form of revenge.
The film begins shooting in London this summer, leaving very little breathing room for either young actor. Fresh off his Golden Globe win, Farrell is set to begin shooting “The Way Back” with Peter Weir in March, and Knightley will soon be playing Zelda Fitzgerald in “The Beautiful and the Damned.” I have to say, I think they’ll make a gorgeous couple onscreen — and it will be a relief to see Knightley in something other than a corset.
KeiraKnightley.com is closing...

...no, not really. We'll be here forever, like an under-tended park bench covered in litter.
This is usually the time of year when we announce big plans to update more frequently, be less lazy and generally provide a better service to you, the fans. But not this time sadly.
You will of course have noticed the decline in activity on KKW over the last year; less frequent updates to the galleries and news now entirely syndicated from our wonderful partner KeiraWeb, from whom I thoroughly recommend you get your daily dose of Keira. The decline we have experienced is simply because the admins who run this site no longer have the time to dedicate to this project which has now been running for over five years. We accept that maintaining keiraknightley.com to the standard we aspire to is no longer possible.
In 2009 keiraknightley.com will cease serving news, its focus instead will be two things. First, we will preserve all our galleries and update them from time to time where possible to provide an archive resource. Second, we will maintain the long-standing fan community that continues to exist on our forums. Rather than make promises of updates that we cannot keep, we'll instead guarantee the survival of what exists here already and continue to provide the beacon for fans across the world to contribute to the community.
Some time next year the website will receive one final redesign, a more compact streamlined affair that concentrates on the galleries and forums. After this is done my personal involvement with keiraknightley.com will become more limited. I hope in time that new Administrators can be found to keep the fires of KKW burning but I must accept that after five years at the helm, 2008 will be my last.
This isn't the end of the website, far from it, just a shakedown into old age for a ship that has served us well.
I'll see you soon.

Keira's role as Zelda Sayre in The Beautiful and The Damned appears to be confirmed judging by the preliminary artwork on the producer's web site. There's been nothing in the press since the "in talks" news story back in September. Filming is set for Spring next year, after Keira completes King Lear, the exterior scenes of which will be filmed in Scotland, according to this article in Variety.

Keira is in negotiations to play Zelda Sayre, wife of US author F. Scott Fitzgerald (author of The Great Gatsby and Tender Is The Night) in a movie called The Beautiful And Damned, to be directed by Nick Cassavetes. The Hollywood Reporter states the film will tell the "untold story" of their tumultuous relationship, although it has formed the basis of many previous productions on stage and screen, most notably the Emmy-winning 1993 TV drama starring Natasha Richardson. Article.
September 21st The Duchess has opened strongly in the US. Although showing on just seven screens, it has taken $202,527, an impressive $28,932 per screen. It opens wider next Friday.
Several interviews in the North American press this weekend: Newsweek - Boston Herald - Toronto Globe - CelebrityCafe - LA Times And a refreshingly intelligent video interview from Charlie Rose.

NEW MOVIE !!!
From KeiraWeb: "Just as I was looking forward to putting my fingers in a glass of cold water after a frantic last few weeks, Dame Keira whips me away to announce another new project. Thankfully it's the former of the two rumours I mentioned yesterday - Last Night. It will co-star Eva Mendes, Guillaume Canet and Sam Worthington. Variety officially announce it today in this article. Pap journalists will be pleased to tell the world that it's NOT a period costume drama. It will be the first time Keira has had a female film director - Massy Tadjedin - since Bend It Like Beckham, although it's not yet clear which of the two female roles Keira will play."
Here's the diary of one of Keira's body-doubles on The Duchess, plus a video interview with Keira later on.

Two major Duchess features in today's British press: Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph, the latter with links to two photo galleries.
The Duchess will get a New York premiere on September 10th, with Keira in attendance.
Paramount Vantage will hold a Duchess Party at The Plaza in New York on September 9th, to coincide with New York Fashion Week (as Georgiana was the setter of trends and styles among her followers, which is the general purpose of fashion shows I guess). Article.

It seems that Keira's stalwart refusal to submit to digital cleavage enhancement has set the media ablaze this week. Judging by the billions of people who have visited here today, you're all quite the whore for a keira/boob story. Well, according to a Daily Mail article (that bastion of tabloid quality) Keira has refused to have any retouching done on publicity pictures for her new movie The Duchess. I don't usually have my pickle tickled enough to quote the Daily Mail but it says:
"Studio bosses wanted to make the slender actress appear more shapely, but Keira refused to have a cleavage drawn on shots. Keira Knightley refused to be airbrushed in publicity pictures for The Duchess
‘She has insisted that her figure stay in its natural state,’ says a source.
‘She is proud of her body and doesn’t want it altered.’
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star was famously enhanced in posters for her 2004 film King Arthur. In Europe, they showed the Chanel model as nature intended, but, in the US, Keira had an ample bosom. Keira Knightley
Natural good looks: Keira is proud of her slim physique and does not want her bosom digitally-enhanced
She said her apparent curves in the film were achieved by make-up.
There is no such illusion in The Duchess.
Adds my source: ‘She looks flat-chested in the whole movie.’"
So there we go. More entertaining is the sheer barrage of emails we received today about this matter. Here's some of the more sober ones:
"I just wanted to let Kiera Knightley know I admire her efforts for authenticity.....she is pure gold" - kh
"Such a wise head on young shoulders - she is a good example for all women - it must be hard to stand against the tide but she's doing it well." - Sarah
"I WANT 1 ROOM FOR 2 NIGHT" - Chikh Samir

It may be a while before we see Keira in another big Hollywood blockbuster hit. She has now vowed to continue working on smaller, British films.
"What’s wonderful about being an actor is I've had the opportunity to do ridiculously huge piratical adventures and then do something that's much smaller and intimate," Knightley told Digital Spy, referring to her new film The Edge Of Love in which she stars with Sienna Miller.
"I want to carry on making British films, but the industry here is absolutely tiny," the Atonement actress continued. "There's definitely more work over in America. I think it’s important if you have a profile that can help get British films made then that’s what you do. It’s my culture, it’s where I’m from, so the stories are always going to mean more."
I've also found this nice article about the characters and actors in The Edge of Love.
Keira also spills the beans about being the 87th Most Important Person in British Culture in these nifty hi-res scans (Total Film Summer 2008).
Quick thanks to barrington and the rest of KK.com for welcoming me to the administrative team!
